Should I buy Pyromancer's Goggles?
Standard Deck Help forum

I'm considering buying a couple, maybe even a playset, of Pyromancer's Goggles since I play a red deck with tons of instants and sorceries. I'm not into any other formats yet, but I'm curious on resale value after it rotates if I decide not to keep them. Any advice? $15 each may be a bit steep, but they'd be sick in my deck. Thanks for any help y'all have for me.
The chances of it staying above $10 after it rotates out of Standard are pretty close to Zero

Good point, DrFunk27. Perhaps I can look at it as an investment into Modern once it rotates then, eh? I agree, Epochalyptik, I think two would work just fine.

j.blake To be honest, I don't see it ever being playable in Modern. The decks that would want to play it also want to win before T5. Just doesn't seem viable about of EDH.

DrFunk27, thanks for your input. I'll use it when weighing pros and cons of getting a couple or not.

I can see it being a great card in EDH R(x) decks, particularly UR, but staple use? Heck no.

When origins came out, goggles was just under $5 each, then went to $2. Once it started getting used in standard it shot up to where it is now. Aside from edh, no other format really wants the card. If you need it for a standard deck and can afford them, then get them, but know that they will go down after rotation.

Personally I love Pyromancer's Goggles. I raved about it when I first saw the card, thought of ways to brew with it, and all that jazz. But in Standard, at the time, the meta was too fast for them. The meta has slowed now, so it has some traction, but honestly the card is best in EDH, where you are going to want one of them. I have played it in EDH a lot, and nothing beats doubling Goblin Rally with Purphoros, God of the Forge on the field...and watch the entire table turn you into a target when 16 hits them all at once and you get 8 Goblins.

Note that it costs and is legendary. The chances of needing multiple at any given time are very, very low. You might want two, maximum, in a deck, and the number you actually play should depend on the deck itself.
