Standard Grixis HELP PLEASE

Standard Deck Help forum

Posted on Oct. 12, 2016, 10:10 p.m. by LazavGravemind

I really need help with my deck. I don't usually play standard, but I'm trying to make a deck that's somewhat budget/not completely terrible. Honestly, not 100% sure what works good and what doesn't. Any help is greatly appreciated.

at first glance I'd say that a lot of your mainboard cards are more like sideboard cards. Mainboard cards should be at least okay in every matchup. Things like Tears of Valakut might be useless in some matchups, and should probably stay in the sideboard.

Any cards you would recommend switching out and around?

Ceremonious rejection and tears of valakut are pretty conditional. Harnessed Lightning is better than flow, especially if you're using aether hub. I'd recommend having at least 2 radiant flames main. Also I don't think rebuff is a good card at all tbh. Lemme take a look again then I'll post more.

Inventors apprentice is a waste of space. Put in more torrential gear hulks imo.

Also you need way more draw spells. Having 3 puzzle knot won't be enough to keep the cards flowing in grindy long games. Consider planeswalkers that draw you cards like jace, unraveller of secrets Ob Nixilis Reignited or Chandra, Torch of Defiance Painful Truths is also good and Take Inventory Anticipate or Glimmer of Genius are options.

I feel like I called it, but a lot of people were probably already into it: Torrential Gearhulk goes up almost 150% in price since day one. Easily the best control finisher in the format imo.

A grixis control deck just won the pro tour, i'd look at that one for help.

Yup now instead of developing your own take on it you can just look at a list and pay twice as much for cards you were already going to use. Kind of takes the fun out of it, but if you want to be winning you have little choice. Looks like you were right about ceremonious rejection too.
