Standard Mana Bases

Standard Deck Help forum

Hi all! I don't play Standard all that much but with the return to Innistrad i HAVE to play standard now! My problem is I'm so used to having fetches and duals that don't know what a good mana base will look like w/out them. With the new lands being revealed today I am officially starting to go crazy with the brews and would like to see what others think will be the best mana base is in standard.

Thank You!

Honestly I think people should stick to 2 color for the time being or at most splash a 3rd color no heavy 3 colors or 4 color decks. The new lands are fine but not as good as fetches and duals and people will forget that and wonder why it doesnt work the same. Playing with these lands and tango lands to play a 3 color deck means your deck will be very slow because a lot of lands will come in tapped more consistently then not and standard just isnt like modern where having a lot of colors turn one is really necessary so these arent as valuable as the "fast lands". With decks being so slow I think2 color decks will run them over and take off. But who knows I could be wrong.

24 lands should be the max you should be running. Most decks really only need between 21-23 to actually have a good stable base. You will have to worry about getting mana flooded more easily now too.

26 at the top end for control 24 midrange 22 or so for aggro. 3 colors is about max but as long as you can keep the three having some overlap with pain and battle lands maybe the new ones should be fine. Abzan esper and naya should be consistent after that id stick to 2

Censuring is right about land counts. Control decks in Standard run 26-27, Midrange decks run 23-25, and Aggro decks run 20-22.

I think 2-3 color decks will be the norm once fetches rotate. I expect 2 color ally decks and 3 color shard decks to be the most common.

I'll be playing Esper Dragons and I expect my manabase to look something like:

4 Sunken Hollow
4 Prairie Stream
3 Port Town
3 Choked Estuary
4 Shambling Vent
4 Island
2 Swamp
2 Haven of the Spirit Dragon

Not sure if I want to run more basics or not. Some testing will reveal the correct formula in time.

It depends on where your mana curve ends. If you have 4 or more cards that cost 5 mana then I highly recommend 24 or 25 lands. Having mana acceleration (Elvish Mystic, etc) obviously lets you run fewer lands.
