Temur Card Draw

Standard Deck Help forum

I have a temur aggro deck that runs 2 copies of Temur Ascendancy. Is the haste worth the URG cost or should I just be running Elemental Bond instead? It was be activated by more cards in the deck, but is the haste worth it in standard right now or post rotation?

I think it depends on your deck (you may want to include a list). As it stands in your post youre saying you are running a temur aggro list. Well if you wanna kill them fast the ascendancy does that and draws you cards mana cost should not be a problem. If elemental bond however will draw you more cards due to the fact that its power 3 then maybe try it. If your creatures already have haste try the bond. I think the best thing is just to try both separately

I think it's better to use Ascendancy here, if your mana base supports it reliably. Also. Look at Shaman of the Great Hunt. He's good. You won't always get a card draw off of him, but he gives you that option along with a very reasonable threat that also makes your other dudes bigger. He gives Rattleclaw Mystic and Den Protector the chance to become legitimately large board threats on their own. A very solid creature in Temur, he's been an important part of my tourney victories in Temur midrange. Try him out, he's less than $2. :)

Temur ascendancy slows down the game I feel. The earliest you can play it is turn 3, when you should be ramping into a savage hasted knuckleblade.

For exampleT1: frontier tri land

T2: land Rattleclaw Mystic

T3: land Savage Knuckleblade give it haste swing.

T4: land Shaman of the Great Hunt swing

T5: something like Ugin's Insight or Surrak Dragonclaw depending on the decks you're facing.

JakeHarlow, I run 3 Shaman of the Great Hunt. He is great but rarely results in card draw.

ojmandias, maybe I should have been more clear. I'm not looking to get my card draw on the board ASAP. I have been playing RUG decks for the last 2 years with a small break to control in the last 2 months. Before Khans Prime Speaker Zegana was my hand refill. After that rotated I went to aggro and used Temur Ascendancy with much success. RUG is extremely hard to deal with if you can nail the card draw aspect of it.

Another thing I thought of using was Collected Company in place of the 3 drop enchantments. Out of 30 creatures 12 don't get on the field when it's cast. Is it too inconsistent?

The only way to know that is to subject your deck to exhaustive testing. Sit down physically with your deck and see how often you'll get two creatures on board with Collected Company. Honestly, if it doesn't work, See the Unwritten as a 2-of (depending on your ramp package) is a reasonable option. It's not an instant though, which is tough. Kiora, Master of the Depths may be your ticket here. I don't like Sarkhan Unbroken, he's too slow. But he does draw cards for you.

Sarkhan Unbroken is sideboard against control. Believe, he shines in that match. Kiora seems interesting to me too.

Control, huh? I think that's actually solid. Now that Hero's Downfall rotates it doesn't seem that bad. Also, Keranos, God of Storms is leaving the format. He was my #1 tool against control, but now that he's gone, and the 5-drop SB anti-control slot is opening up, Sarkhan Unbroken actually seems awesome in the new format.

Thanks for the tech, capriom85!
