Do the new Scions replace Mana dorks in Standard now? Are they better or worse as a ramp mechanic? I'm trying them out in my deck:

What are your thoughts? How is the deck?

The biggest problem with using Scions as your only source of ramp is that they are one time use. Ramp decks get value out of dorks because you can drop them early and leverage them all game long (or until someone Wild Slashes them). The other problem with Scions is that they are often not sold separately. They often come attached to other creatures that may or may not be efficient. Blisterpod is nice, but you don't get to ramp until after it dies, and you only get 1 extra mana for 1 turn. Call the Scions is 3 mana, which is more than you want to spend to get ramp online, and Eyeless Watcher is even more expensive. From Beyond provides phenomenal creature advantage and that search ability can be really handy, but Frontier Siege gets you 2 mana per main phase, for a total of 4 mana per turn if you can utilize it.
I'm not saying that scions are useless, but compared to a G/R ramp deck with a not unreasonable chance of a turn 5 Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger, its pretty clear which is better ramp
