Welcome to the best (maybe), awesomest forum for the Tree of Perdition + Triskaidekaphobia combo! Other related combos are also welcome. Please be fair and make sure to add helpful suggestions as well as your own decklists!

Questions:

How good is the combo, provided it can be countered with any of the widely played painlands like Shivan Reef?
How good is the combo, given that it requires 8 mana and at least two turns?
The combo pieces are expensive and do not really do anything on their own, how do you mitigate that?
Since you cannot run 4 copies each of the two spells, because of the above issues, how do you mitigate that reduction in consistency?

Boza- while the combo is slow, I believe that the deck is still viable. Shivan Reef and other painlands are certainly a challenge that I still need to look into. An option in the Tree + Trisk deck is to play other creatures/spells that also interact with a part of the combo (such as the Assault Formation + Tree of Perdition combo by MenacingBunny). Another similar option is to play control to stall until you can play the combo pieces. Thank you for your feedback and concern! I'll make sure to keep your questions in mind when constructing.

It's also possible to kill with 3 taps if you have the tree + Tainted Remedy. Or tree taps and toughness altering like Shape the Sands. You can use Disciple of the Ring as a cheap-ish untapper...

You will need lots of kill spells and counters to protect your combo and shut down the opponent.

Hey DruneGrey, do you know of a deck revolving around that combo. If so, please post it in the forum!

I could probably throw something together. It just depends on what you want to see as far as a base build for a Tree deck. There are, to the best of my knowledge, 3 current combos:

Tree of Perdition with Triskaidekaphobia for a turn 5-ish Kill and can be mono-black

Tree of Perdition with Tainted Remedy, untap effects like Disciple of the Ring can speed this up but still turn 5-ish and probably 2 or 3 colors, UB or Esper.

One of the other potential combos includes Tree of Perdition, Turn to Frog then either a pinger or Twin Bolt/Reality Hemorrhage This would be Turn 5 as well, and require 3 colors Grixis.

Tree of Perdition doesn't work with most transformation affects since they not only transform its power/toughness, but make it loose all its abilities (like the above mentioned Turn to Frog

On the other hand Soul Separator can rip the tree into a 0/13 zombie, and an 1/1 spirit, that has the relevant "tap: Exchange target opponent's life total with Tree of Perdition's toughness." on it.
(of course the tree needs to be dead to do this - which is not bad considering it will probably be a big target for removal as the win condition)

Turn to Frog works wonders with the tree - activate the ability and with it on the stack, cast turn to frog. The tree will have 1 toughness when the ability resolves. Without going into other colors, you can cast Kalastria Healer or Succumb to Temptation to win.

Boza: Good thought on the Healer, I had forgotten about her...This might do well in Esper with Turn to Frog, Blessed Alliance, some counters...basically a life-drain shell with a combo finish?
