Standard Deck Help forum

I am playing a version of the UW Mastery deck Craig Wesco developed.

Now here is my question: Wingmate Roc is going bye bye. I know, boo hoo. What can take is place. Most of the deck is solid and losing Mastery of the Unseen doesn't devastate this build. I was thinking maybe Dragonlord Ojutai can take the 5 drop slot. What I really think this deck would like is Archangel of Thune, but that's not happening. Anything anyone can see that is currently going to stick around for that slot?

I realize I have a lot of SOI to see before making final choices, and since its Innistrad I may see some cool mythic angel 5 drop, but...anything I may wanna buy into now?

Linvala, the Preserver is stupidly good.

Linvala, the Preserver, as previously mentioned, is a really good one. Sphinx of the Final Word is also a decent choice I say. It costs 7 but that should be totally fine. However, I do believe Dragonlord Ojutai is probably the best, but I think there is a good chance at SOI bringing a lot of sacrifice effects (just my prediction).

MenacingBunny & IzzetGod, thanks for those mentions.

Linvala, the Preserver: I was looking at her. She is stupid good on paper, but the 6 drop slot scares me with this build.

Sphinx of the Final Word: definitely a beast, but I am not convinced he has a place here. I mean, uncounterable and hexproof is just insane. His static ability won't help me in this build, but the real problem for me is the 7cmc.

Dragonlord Ojutai: is a proven finisher in a few decks and I feel like the card draw is very useful to this deck as my only real draw occurs from a side boarded Treasure Cruise, but that is kind of negligible since we are talking about this as post rotation.

Either of you have experience playing Linvala in constructed?

I only have a limited experience (pun intended). I don'the play /Esper but like you said, on paper she works but I feel like she'said really one of the best, and only, options you have so far until SOI is completely spoiled. I feel she can work though. Just gotta add a bit of a slower build to set up for her on turn 6 and I think does better than Wingmate Roc anyway. Could be wrong though.

You're right. She is one of the better finishing options right now until SOI is complete. The 6 drop hurts, but an extra creature and 5 life is nice if it works. I mean, adding 8 power to the board is great, and I like that, just like the roc, one single kill spell won't hose it. At $2 she is not a problem for me to buy into. I am still hoping for a 5 drop of something on the level of Archangel of Thune, but who knows.

Well it is a Plane with a lot of Angels, however, it looks like a lot the Angels have turned evil. So maybe play Esper instead? The hand disruption that black gives is good. Duress and Transgress the Mind will both help keep you safer until you can drop your bomb. I can black also being very good in SOI so I think it's worth considering.

It's very much worth considering. I'm guessing there has to be at least one renegade angel that will be mono white. Doesn't have to be an angel, though, I'm just wishing that because I want something like Archangel of Thune. I'm hoping for a big anything that will work.

It isn't that good as an attacker but she makes it very difficult for your opponent. She comes down turn 4 though. With Archangel of Tithes your opponents have to pay mana to attack and block, so they either attack, leave blocks, or cast spells.

It will still be legal for the next i think 3 sets.

You are correct and I have 3 Archangel of Tithes in my sideboard already. It's a definitely great card and I am glad that is sticking around right now. It makes the opponent very cautious when taking turns and 2 of them makes it impossible to ever take tempo away from me.

The new Avacyn looks decent, but I'm not convinced I want to wipe my board when I play my finisher.
