Wandering Behemoth
Standard Deck Help forum

I'm thinking of running a BG or BUG control with Deadly Wanderings and Deathless Behemoth. Is this a viable option? FNM is pretty much as serious as I ever play and I want to run something original but competitive enough to, at the very least make all of my opponents sweat if not regularly go 3-2 or better.
What things would make the deck work? Can I get by with Black and then just splash Green for Call the Scions to bring back the behemoth or will I need Blue for some Dig Through Time and counter spells?
Any help is much appreciated.

On another note, that seems like a fun combo. I would try a From Beyond with Smothering Abomination combo. Find ways to spam creatures, sac them, and gain value. Spam: From Beyond. Sac Vampiric Rites. Value: Zulaport Cutthroat. Other good spams are Call the Scions, Eyeless Watcher, Blisterpod, Brood Butcher, Brood Monitor, Catacomb Sifter, and Grave Birthing. Sacrifice Outlets and Value include Altar's Reap, Bone Splinters, Voracious Null, Tormented Thoughts, Sidisi, Undead Vizier, Rakshasa Gravecaller, and Nantuko Husk. Due to you having a lot of Eldrazi Scions, good choices for top end are Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger, Void Winnower, Conduit of Ruin, and Ugin, the Spirit Dragon. If you go Abzan, good cards are Secure the Wastes, Sorin, Solemn Visitor, and Gideon, Ally of Zendikar. This is by no means a comprehensive list, but do keep these in mind. Over-all, Deathless Behemoth isn't that great of a card, but you could make it work.

Thanks. I was interested in him with Deadly Wanderings because of his size and vigilance. Being able to attack for 8 and gaining 8, then block, kill creature and gain another 8.

No. Not really. Crackling Doom, Valorous Stance, Abzan Charm, Stasis Snare, Ruinous Path and Foul-Tongue Invocation will poop on your parade hard. It's slow and inefficient. For that effect, I'd rather just play Dragonlord Dromoka.

Ouch, no kidding. Thanks for bringing those cards up. I'd have had a bad time :(
That helps a lot. Now I can go with a more mono black idea I had that involves just another spell that would wreck my behemoth idea.
Thinking mono black with Corpseweft, Risen Executioner, Merciless Executioner, Fleshbag Marauder, plenty of spot removal and board wipes like Ruinous Path and Languish with Crux of Fate for the tougher creatures. The idea being to keep the board clear with all the removal, then kill with the Risen Executioner and Corpseweft zombies.
I like the versatility of Corpseweft. If I don't need big creatures I can make a couple 2/2's a turn, maybe more, or I can make a big guy every turn.
Does this sound better?

TheDevicer, I agree that Deathless Behemoth is a little weak, but I think we are trying to make it work.

Please use double brackets; Deathless Behemoth and Deadly Wanderings.
