Warriors vs. Elves
Standard Deck Help forum

So last night I did a friendly game where I played my B/W warriors against a mostly standard legal B/G elf deck. That's good, because I learned that this may be something of a problem.
Gnarlroot Trapper turns what would normally be favorable combat situations into trades, Dwynen's Elite allows a lot of blockers, and this deck can quickly dump its hand onto the field. There's a bunch of elves (particularly in black) that I think may be difficult to handle.
Shaman of the Pack is also annoying when I'm already losing life to my mana base.
Does anyone have advice on how to make this matchup more favorable, in terms of the cards I use or sideboard in or how I play the deck against elves? I'd appreciate it.

Drown in Sorrow is definitely something to consider if elves turn out to be prevalent in my meta. It's probably the only matchup where that card would be useful though, so I'm not ready to add it to the sideboard just yet. It would almost definitely hit elves harder than it would me; I have recursion and don't tend to dump my entire hand as early.

You need to shut down their key Elves before they do you damage ie. as soon as they enter the field.
Instant speed removal is the way to go.
Stuff like:
Banishing Light might also prove useful.
Hope that helps.

Thanks for the suggestions.
Most of those are too mana-intensive for me to get them out on time. Ultimate Price seems like a good option though, and I will continue to have Hero's Downfall in my 75. Banishing Light is something I hadn't considered. Unfortunately it is vulnerable to removal, but could still work.
Radiant Purge is an unlikely candidate because most of the problem creatures are mono-colored.

Another card to consider is Devouring Light.
Attack into THAT Dwynen, Gilt-Leaf Daen.

Yes, but Shaman of the Pack is going to do its thing as soon as it comes in, regardless of whether it is removed. Now Devouring Light? That's a fun one, and I'll definitely consider it! It won't hit the Gnarlroot Trapper, but it's something and it's a nasty surprise for Dwynen to be sure.

i dont really know, elves is a tough matchup. i do notice you are running Chief of the Scale in your sideboard, so maybe using removal spells to get rid of enemy Dwynen, Gilt-Leaf Daen and then using Drown in Sorrow to kill of enemy creature would be good. the only drawback would be some of your creatures would die too, but i guess Chief of the Scale and Return to the Ranks help with that. Other than that, i dont really know.
