What are some cards that can get rid of Westvale Abbey Flip / Ormendahl, Profane Prince Flip.
Standard Deck Help forum

I want to know how to stop this demon in standard, primarily in black but id like to hear suggestions for all colors. To start we have Crumble to Dust, World Breaker, and To the Slaughter to work with.

That is very true. Even Isolation Zone. I wonder if someone has made a mono white exile deck yet.

IN blue, you get all the bounce, ie Just the Wind. Blessed Reincarnation, Crush of Tentacles, Displacement Wave with X=0, even Turn to Frog.
In green, you get World Breaker for example.
In red, you get Crumble to Dust which is super effective, as well as various Threaten effects like Eldrazi Obligator to turn things around.
In black, you get sac like Merciless Executioner and Fleshbag Marauder.
In white, I will add Bound by Moonsilver and Quarantine Field.
In multicolor, you have Anguished Unmaking, Altered Ego (fight fire with fire), Brutal Expulsion, Silumgar's Command, Dragonlord Silumgar.

You could also try and remove the creatures needed for Westvale Abbey Flip to transform. Cards like Languish and Chandra's Ignition are pretty useful for sweeping the opponent, especially if they are using the 1/1 Cleric tokens.

The best way to do it is to frustrate them by bouncing it. I have done that in tournaments, and they get ticked when their work gets bounced back into as land. now, you want something in so I suggest you use something like To the Slaughter. By the time they use all that stuff to flip Westvale Abbey Flip, more than likely their board is wiped clean save for that, and To the Slaughter will then force them to sac that, which gets around the Indestructible clause of the flipped Abbey.
It works.

The only problem with most of these solutions is they all happen at sorcery speed. You have to be be able to answer it the turn it flips. Crumble to Dust seems like a proactive answer as it can target the land and not have to wait till it's a creature, but I don't know if it's worth it. The decks that Westvale Abbey Flip fits in best are flooding the board and going wide fast. They'll probably just kill you with combat damage their next turn if your really taking turn 4 off to blow up their land. Westvale Abbey Flip is a safety net in those decks. An option for them to push through that final bit of damage when their "small creature go wide" strategy starts to stall. Those decks want to finish you off by constantly playing creatures and aggressively attacking with them and only flip the abbey when it's a necessity. Actively targeting the abbey is not the way to go because your not even combating the decks main win condition. Keeping their board clear goes a lot farther in beating those decks than getting rid of the abbey ever will. 1.) your actively attacking their main win condition 2.) they can't rely on their safety net because they can't cash in all of their small creatures for a large one

The deck I faced last week was a gw token deck that used Cryptolith Rite and tokens to pop abbey consistently. I have 3 Virulent Plague and 3 To the Slaughter in my side board for it, as well as a Blighted Fen and two Bearer of Silence in the main that can handle it. I just never drew into any of it. I lost 0-2 and he got 3rd at my lgs.

You don't actually need to kill Westvale Abbey Flip the turn it transforms.
You can chump block it and knock it off in your next Main Phase, as it doesn't have Trample.
Just be aware that Merciless Executioner is no longer in Standard, so that won't work for that format.

One black card that is ok at dusting that demon; but at sorcery speed is Oblivion Strike. If they are using the Abby as their win con; they're going to want to do everything they can to get it down ASAP and you'll have the mana at that point to drop it. You just have to be able to absorb a 18-point life swing if you don't have a flyer to block
Best removal out there is Anguished Unmaking and will solve your problems easily

If you don't draw into any of your 9 answers you're just shit outta luck, you don't need to adjust your deck. You should only draw conclusions if you have a decent sample size, don't overreact to a few losses.

As a counter to this issue, I have a question. I have two that I have started to playtest in my deck, which is a red/colorless. Are there any cards (of any color) that you can play to transform a card without meeting the criteria on the front? I can't recall seeing any, but that would be money for this card. Also, it's difficult to get him turned, but once he does, it's strong. But as mentioned, a lot of these can answer the issue if you're facing someone with a Westvale Abbey Flip.

I was lucky enough to crack two Westvales at pre-release.
I don't even bother trying to transform him, because he can be destroyed easier than you would think.
I just keep his land side up and keep spitting out little Clerics when all my other Creatures are dead.

I know the poster wants black, but was open to all colors. No one mentioned Jace, Unraveler of Secrets. He definitely take care of it. Declaration in Stone and the white suite of exiles are definitely the best at this particular threat. Instant speed would be ideal with the haste attached to the demon, so Stasis Snare seems good against him by the time they have 5 mana and 5 creatures open.
In black you best bet is To the Slaughter. Most decks with trigger the delerium by the point in the game that this guy can become active so it's likely they will be losing a walker and a creature, too, so, bonus! It's also likely that they will only have the demon to sacrifice to fulfill the creature requirement because they just sacrifices 5 others.

Got a problem with it? Languish or Flaying Tendrils has got your back. If your opponent still gets to flip it in the same game, you'd have lost anyway.

No one has mentioned this yet but you can just target it with Turn to Frog then chump block it, which will kill it, or hit it with any other type of destruction you like.

Ultimate Price has made it's way into the sideboard of my decks due the prevelance of mono white humans and ormendahl.
Also important to note that mono colored creatures have become much more prevelant with the release of SOI but the reason it is sideboard only(for me) is because eldrazi are still showing some commonality but it mops up a lot of threats from many other decks.

ormendahl is indestructible; ultimate price won't work on it
April 19, 2016 3:23 p.m.
Has anyone mentioned Press into Service or Eldrazi Obligator yet? I especially like the Obligator because it triggers on cast ... the spell doesn't even have to revolve.
Clone effects are fun too ... best moment of a recent Limited game was an Abbey player sac'ing their board just to hand me a bigger better one via Altered Ego :-)

AgentGreen - wow. How I've missed that for more than a month I don't know. Lol

There are a few other Land destruction options too (besides Crumble to Dust, already mentioned): Reclaiming Vines; Vandalize; and Volcanic Upheaval
April 21, 2016 12:53 a.m.
Bounce spells will work because he has to sacrifice 5 creatures each time he wants to flip Westvale Abbey Flip.
April 21, 2016 7:52 a.m.
Unfortunately, no. Indestructible prevents it from dying due to damage dealt to it.
July 8, 2016 1 p.m.
no Ormendahl, Profane Prince is indestructible. It doesn't matter how much damage you do it won't kill him. Your only options are to deal with it before it becomes a creature, exile it after it transforms, make your opponent sacrifice a creature (hopefully they only have 1 so it has to be ormendahl), reduce it's toughness to 0 with -/- effects/counters, or bounce it to their hand and make them have to flip it again.
Aside from the fact it starts as a land that transforms into a creature, it is no different than any other indestructible creature.

Anguished Unmaking, To the Slaughter, Declaration in Stone, Celestial Flare, Burn from Within, Demolish, Reclaiming Vines, Vandalize, Volcanic Upheaval

A new Eldritch Moon card called Ruthless Disposal can kill Ormendahl and any of the new Titans
July 8, 2016 5:53 p.m.
Wait until they flip it then blink it with Eldrazi Displacer
FatherLiir says... #2
He's indestructible but not hexproof. White probably has the easiest way to remove him with Angelic Purge, Silkwrap, Declaration in Stone and Stasis Snare
