Alright peps I wanna know what you guys think about all these infinite combos. There's the Jeskai Ascendancy infinite buff which has made headlines lately to be banned in modern (it won't). there's Sage of Hours infinite turns. There's Altar of the Brood infinite mill. Geez is there usually so many infinite combos in standard? And did I miss any?

According to mtgtop8.com, Jeskai Ascendancy is the only combo that has performed well in competitive standard. In the previous standard, there were zero, and in the standard before that there was one, and in the standard before that there were zero, and in the standard before that there was one. So in recent times, we have the usual amount of combo decks in standard, but I personally would like some more options when it comes to combo decks in standard, but that probably won't happen.

MagicalHacker There was one last season. I believe there was an infinite life combo involving Boros Reckoner, Boros Charm (or another source of indestructible) and giving him lifelink.

"Combos" with 4+ specific moving pieces aren't competitively viable. Jeskai Ascendancy works because it is 1 card, plus every spell in the deck. The standard version doesn't seem to be running infinite or near infinite at high levels of play even. It is more exploiting a strong synergy than what many would consider combo with no way to cast more spells per turn than normal since they dropped the mana dorks.

I agree with Gidgetimer with the Synergy section of his argument. One of my favorites is using Karametra's Acolyte, Singing Bell Strike, and have seven Devotion to Green for Infinate Green Mana every turn.

How is Ajani, Scales, and Sage a combo? Ajani puts 3 counters on Sage, but because of Scales replacement effect Ajani puts 4 on Sage. Unless your mean to say you need two Scales out, which would then be a combo.

IMO, the reason that all of these combos are showing up in standard is that more people are trying to look for them and starting to home brew after the success of the Jeskai Ascendancy combo. Heck, I created a combo myself, using Master the Way. You just gotta look for a card that you like, and work as hard as possible to make it broken.
