Angels in Standard
Standard forum

With some of the cards from M15, I really want to try making a standard angel deck I can use at FNM and ith friends, but I honestly don't know how it would work. I've yet to play anything white in standard so far, so would it be possible to make a strong angel-based standard deck? Not necessarily life-gain or anything, just a mono-white angel, solider, cleric, etc. deck. Any advice? Thanks!

Unfortunately, although it's a cool idea, that's not really viable. I ran an angels (with a human sub theme for Angel of Glory's Rise ) deck as soon as I started playing magic, It was during Innistrad/Scars using a bunch of angels of Innistrad block. That had a much bigger abundance of angels, and the deck just wasnt viable even in G/W with ramp. Now, there really just aren't enough angels to make it viable and it would be a bit slow. Lifegain is honestly the way to go, if you want to play some angels. In a G/W shell, you have access to Angelic Accord , Archangel of Thune , and Path of Bravery for a good backbone. One ofs Angel of Serenity and Resolute Archangel wouldn't be bad either, if you really wanted. Play early threats with Ajani's Pridemate , Voracious Wurm and Scavenging Ooze . Then you can hit that Angelic Accord trigger with cards like Heros Reunion, Wall of Essence , Brindle Boar , Unflinching Courage , Centaur Healer as a good beater, etc. That's my two cents, but if you really want to do tribal angels do it. Go G/W and ramp into big threats, its always been a solid strategy.

Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx can give you pretty good mana off of cards like Boros Reckoner or Precinct Captain , making Archangel of Thune castable and Avacyn, Guardian Angel capable.
Since this requires you to invest heavily into your board, I think it's best to splash blue for Ephara, God of the Polis . She gives you the win against mono-B if they aren't deep into Pack Rats (and if they are, blue gives you the format's best answer in Detention Sphere . Control is tough (and they'll maindeck Deicide ,) but not unwinnable with Ephara or just by curving out.
If you're heart is set on mono-W, I think you just become mono-W aggro with Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx and some bombs, which isn't bad, but I don't think you'll beat mono-black too often.
Sample decks: The Po-lis! (uW Devotion)

I think there is great potential for a casual angel deck use boros reckoner for devotion to get your big angels out plus banishing light as removal plus some nice sideboard tech. P.s. sorry for no links can't make them on phone.

Since the viable Angel creatures all have a high mana cost, you'd probably want to pair it with Green for ramp and creature support.
