If taken to an FNM, by itself, how would say, the theros event deck do?

It is supposed to be a step higher (maybe 10 steps) higher than the intro packs, but I doubt it'll do as well in a competitive scene; especially facing MBD, Control, and Monsters, there's a lot to live up to that the deck need to fulfill.

On a scale from 1-10, with 1 being a Theros theme deck and 10 being Mono-Black Devotion, I'd put it at a 5 or 6. You could probably expect to go 1-3 at FNM with a deck of this strength, assuming there's a decent mix of strong and weak decks in your meta.

Event decks are significantly stronger than theme decks because they come with a defined purpose and plan.

"Theme decks" = Intro packs.

An event deck by itself will probably go 0-4 at an fnm. maybe 1-3 just because of bad homebrews. But an event deck is usually a pretty good deck skeleton to build around. You can usually give the deck more 4 ofs, get rid of cards that have strictly better options, and you'd probably end up with an alright deck.

On a scale of 1-10, with 10 being Mono Black Devotion and 1 being a goldfish:

Theros: 3

Born of the gods: 7.5

Journey into nyx: 4.5

Not to bash bulba's list, but this is what i'd put each of the event decks at. BNG deck was Mono black devotion, just worse, so that one's pretty high up there. The journey deck is a bad izzet control list, and the theros deck was UW herioc, which gets ripped apart by pretty much every tier one deck.

If you plan on facing a few good decks but mostly tier 2, you may stand to go 3-2 at an FNM with any of the given decks.

General agreement with ThatBlueMage. I think everyone else was being a bit harsh, I think you could do fairly well with the BotG list.

Event decks are often not built around the current meta game up to their release day and are full of cards that do little for the deck like the new JOU event deck packing 2 Anger of the Gods which kills your own creatures and exiles them when your trying to win games with Young Pyromancer and Guttersnipe it claims this deck needs alot of set up time which you dont have really vs MUD , MBD, RDW , G/R Monsters and Jund Monsters and dredge and R/W burn. So to me these decks are made with little care or respect for the meta and are usually even inferior to an above average home brew. They are themselves in my opinion a below average homebrew. I wish they would just make an all foil top tier deck of their choosing and put out a limited quantity for like 200 bucks or something. That way it wouldnt smash card prices, people who already have the deck or the cards wouldnt care about it and a new player could just jump in with a decent deck. My opinion intro decks and event decks are almost equally bad in potency.

I think that for the price though it isn't a terrible deal. i mean. Steam Vents anyone? It is kinda sad that wizards doesn't bother making a decent deck though. It's not that hard. I could make a decent standard deck under 50 dollars in about 20 minutes.

That Theros event deck is a piece of work, came up against it unprepared for aggro as my local meta is midrange, have packed enchantment removal ever since.

They generally fall somewhere between a theme deck and a below-average homebrew. So, as others have said, don't expect to win a ton of games. They're best for a new player or someone who doesn't want to take the time to build a deck on a budget.
