Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver what to do with him

i played with this card and lately it seems underwelming...

if played against aggro i feel this card is to slow and you simply get overrun anyhow. if you dont your already winning.

against control if you can ult ash it can be devastating but will you ever...realy. keeping such a thing alive for 5 whole turns seems rather long. if you can do that you practically deserve to win witch you most likely do then anyhow.

but in all seriousness between Hero's Downfall and Detention Sphere s and all the other stuff control offers aint it better of as a sideboard card paired with Jace, Memory Adept ???

true to be told i did get some interresting playes like using the x=2 part to get of a t6 Jace, Memory Adept with mana to spare ones for a coutermeaseures thanks to Burning-Tree Emissary but thats about it.

like to hear your thoughts on Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver

I play (him? Her?) as a two of in bug superfriends. Against certain decks it's good, others not so much.

He can be useful in some decks against certain other decks. I play him as a 1-of in my Esper control deck, and he wreaks havoc against creature heavy midrange decks. I primarily use him as a distraction for a few turns to get counterspells, killspells, etc. lined up and to give me a little breathing room. But if you can protect him for a few turns, he can definitely take over games and get you wins. It's really all about matchups though.

The one thing to remember against control however is that if he does eat a Hero's Downfall or Detention Sphere that's one less they have to use on your other threats, so I'd still consider it a win. Anything that immediately eats removal spells is good in the long run.

it steals creatures, so it relies on your OPP having creatures worth stealing. at the end of the day, its a fantastic SB card, but not worth it MB unless you're trying to mill, in which case you can rob some chump blockers as you +1. am i wrong? i could be since i havnt been FNMing since 2013 cause my LGS shut down

SpaderAce there is one other, but their FNM starts at 6, and that's when i'd be just getting out of work.

Ashiok does work in my Grixis build. Of course, since my deck runs no creatures and a bunch of boardwipes, Plainswalkers, and creature hate, I suppose you can take my advice with a grain of salt.

Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver can win you a game against any deck. if anything, his (yes, he is a guy) effectiveness is dependent on YOUR deck. in a Grixis deck (which GoldGhost012 and I are both huge fans of) your deck would consist of a lot of redundant spells, such as Dreadbore and Hero's Downfall . you could also have Duress and Thoughtseize to take away your opponent's Detention Sphere before they hit it. (Quicken +Thoughtseize is so funny). I think Grixis is the best shell for him. An esper deck could use it effectively as well. basically use ashiok backed up with counters and kills to win you the game.

Ashiok is underwhelming because... he's underwhelming, for the exact reasons you stated. There's a reason he sees 0 standard play.
