Best Colors for Kalonian Hydra

I can see a lot of people using Kalonian Hydra in a R/G build, or Jund so they can combo with Exava, Rakdos Blood Witch or maybe Ogre Battledriver . Could it also do well in a mono-green setting with Yeva, Nature's Herald to flash him in? Sure, she'll rotate out soon, but she's still good yet! Or how about Simic colors? He might be great friends with Master Biomancer and creatures with evolve. Thoughts?

Look up the competitive standard elf decks that are being played.

I'm using a playset in a bant deck right now. Typical bant midrange curve with silence, and the three charms to back it up. Obnoxious to play against, but I'm leaning back towards jund due to removals. Quite fond of the angel however.

Honestly as soon as I get the chance, I really look forward to replacing Primordial Hydra with him in my simic deck. It'll be easy to move counters to or from him, so even a doomblade might not be bad if I can double his counters then bioshift them to something more threatning.

... why not both? Primordial Hydra seems like a really nice 3-drop.

I like the simic pairing, works very nicely with all that evolve.

Rakdos and Simic would benefit the most from his ability.

Well they do about the same function in my deck, but Kalonian hydra gets the same counters for less mana, and even though I could drop the primordial a turn earlier to try and catch up, the 4 counters when hitting the board works better with playing with the counters on him incast of a removal spell off the bat. Plus with the mana curve, I wouldn't want to have too many big creatures when I already like Vorapede and Zameck Guildmage 's interaction.

I started with him in bug, then. Realised it was too slow so I swapped out the blue for red.

It seems I'm in the minority here, but I like GR, at least until the next rotation. His biggest weakness is that he's easy to remove, but you can give him haste with Ogre Battledriver or Lightning Mauler for a massive surprise attack. Red also helps clear out Deathtouch creatures and other nuisances that could cause him problems. Never underestimate the power of surprise in a Magic game.

Since Green has plenty of good creatures gaining counters (Experiment One , Strangleroot Geist , Predator Ooze , etc.) playing Simic seems too one-dimensional. I do like Black for Corpsejack Menace and Reanimator possibilities and Jund for the Blood Witch mentioned above..

Of course, I don't even take my own advice and am planning to throw him into my RUG Dangerfield's Blitzin' Biomancers & Battledrivers when I get the money. But that's just because I'm a Johnny; I'm assuming this is a Spike question.

I want to pair him either UG with Biomancer or BG with Corpsejack. Having him enter the battlefield as an 8/8 is pretty nice. And with a deck that's always placing counters on stuff, doubling them would be great!
