Hello everyone. I'm just curious to view everyone's opinions on this matter. Which do you think is the best mechanic for limited amongst those in RTR and GTC? Why? Cheers!

Unleash, batallion, and bloodrush are all good combat tricks that were pretty significant in the prereleases I went to. Bloodrush especially is damn near impossible to respond to in limited format.

Bloodrush and Extort seemed the most relevant while I was playing. Extort, particularly, gets nasty if left unchecked. At least Bloodrush wastes a card in hand every time it's used.

I like the extort mechanic. I think it is interesting.

For RTR, Unleash and Detain were the best mechanics. Unleash was just cool at making your guys bigger, which is what mattered in Rakdos, while Detain was such a huge buff in tempo.

As for GTC, Extort and Bloodrush are the best, as said before. Extort is grindy and makes you harder to kill while killing your opponent, and Bloodrush just randomly wins games.

My take on the 10 RTR block Mechanics as they pertain to Limited.

  • Detain: Good concept, poorly implemented. - Status for Limited: weak, but a few bombs exist

  • Populate: Interesting concept, well implemented. - Status for limited: good, but difficult to get supporting cards.

  • Unleash: Surprisingly strong concept, balanced implementation. - Status for limited: good-strong, splashable and do not need to build around.

  • Scavenge: Strong concept, slightly weak implementation. - Status for limited: good-strong, splashable and do not need to build around, but supporting cards can increase its power greatly.

  • Overload: Interesting Concept, poorly implemented. - Status for Limited: weak with a few useable cards.

  • Evolve: Fun concept, well implemented. - Status for Limited: week-strong, power of Evolve greatly dependant on getting supporting cards.

  • Bloodrush: - Good concept, powerfully implemented. - Status for limited: strong, decent flexibility due to creature and combat tricks in one.

  • Battalion: - Good concept, well implemented. - Status for Limited: good-powerful, must build around to make work, requirement of 3 attackers makes it vulnerable to removal.

  • Cipher: - Great concept, poorly implemented. - Status for limited: weak-strong, required 'unblockable' to be strong, and too few cost effective Cipher cards.

  • Extort: - Surprisingly strong concept, well implemented. - Status for Limited: strong-powerful, inexpensive, repeatable, and splashable... any limited deck in these colors should try to get a few, if not many, Extort cards.

as with any limited format, it is heavily dependant on what you get.

Each mechanic has a handful of limited allstars that make the mechanic shine.

Evolve: Cloudfin Raptor , Crocanura , Experiment One
Bloodrush: Ghor-Clan Rampager , Rubblehulk , Slaughterhorn
Detain: Azorius Arrester , Martial Law , Lyev Skyknight
Populate: Druid's Deliverance
Unleash: Gore-House Chainwalker , Dead Reveler , Splatter Thug
Scavenge: Dreg Mangler , Sewer Shambler
Overload: Dynacharge can be a game ender in boros, Electrickery , Teleportal
Battalion: Boros Elite , Warmind Infantry
Cipher: Hands of Binding it may be the only real good one but it is crazy.Extort: Syndic of Tithes , Basilica Guards Kingpin's Pet

Each of the above cards is powerful within its own mechanic and is worth picking if you have the colors. The thing about limited right now is that you aren't going to be able ot draft a single mechanic unless you are really lucky.
