Putrefy is my favorite, if you're running the colors, due to its broader range (Pithing Needle is a thing) and it isn't stopped by Golgari Charm or any other regen. Doom Blade is playable in more decks, and does the job for less... most of the time.

are you talking about stuff like Doom Blade or mass removal like Bonfire of the Damned ?

Mizzium Mortars is my current fav. But yeah Doom Blade is pretty much the staple. and if you're going for a wipe, Supreme Verdict is probably the best, but Cyclonic Rift is pretty dope too

Warped Physique is another option. Works well for me in Esper Control. I switched out my Doom Blade for these with no regrets.

so then the answer is Dreadbore followed by Abrupt Decay

Doom Blade sucks.

Lol, ask a question, then tell everyone they're wrong. I still stand by Putrefy though, instant speed and little restrictions.

APPLE01DOJ says... #9

I agree on Putrefy being awesome.

I personally like Dreadbore the most. although its not an instant, I can definitely see why the others would be better in certain cases. I just like the fact that dreadbore doesn't limit you on the creature color and you can also destroy planeswalkers.

I like Turn / Burn and Far / Away . Can't decide which is better. I run both in my RUGB deck with Snapcaster Mage .

you're all crazy, it's Hand of Death for sure

I will have to go with Doom Blade as well just because it's instant speed over Dreadbore being sorcery and 2 mana over Putrefy being 3. I do play a BR control deck, so I play both Doom Blade and Dreadbore

I know there are other good cards, but this is my order:

1)Terminus

2)Supreme Verdict

3)Pillar of Flame

4)Abrupt Decay

5)Putrefy

I forgot Bonfire of the Damned ! Squeeze it in between Supreme and Pillar.

Removal is situational. Your deck and the deck your matched-up against determine the strength of a card.

Nothing can kill AEtherling so it doesn't even matter.

God, I miss Terror .

vonbittner says... #25

The thing with AEtherling is u have to remove it twice, and having 2 removals in hand when it hits is a thing.

August 16, 2013 9:06 a.m.

8vomit says... #26

My favorite removal spell is definitely Dreadbore , any creature or planeswalker can be removed, the only thing that could make it better is if it was an instant. I also really like Tribute to Hunger but thats only removal if they only have 1 creature.

thataddkid says... #27

E_raw94, Pithing Needle only applies to non-mana abilities, so it would be worthless against AEtherling .

August 17, 2013 9:49 p.m.

seevers35 says... #28

@thataddkid

An example of a mana ability is Llanowar Elves . The ability produces mana.

Pithing Needle works fine against AEtherling .

Putrefy takes out AEtherling

its not standard but I like to favor... Mirror Mirror

August 18, 2013 2:42 a.m.

vonbittner says... #31

Putrefy only takes out AEtherling if u hit it twice. i.e. Ultimate Price the AEtherling , its controller responds by exiling it, u respond Putrefy ing it. Unless the other guy has mana to exile it again.

ShimmerVoid says... #32

Nightshade Peddler +Izzet Staticaster . Takes care of all creatures aside from hexproof ones. Even keeps the pesky AEtherling in check.

Doc28 says... #33

Pithing Needle wouldnt matter cause AEtherling uses mana abilities

September 2, 2014 11:23 p.m.

JWiley129 says... #34

way to revive an old thread from over a year ago Doc28 with wrong info. Mana abilities are those that generate mana, and none of AEtherling 's abilities generate mana.
