We have developed a box mapping utility that accurately predicts which rare you will get before you open the booster pack.

box mapping is like child grooming, except your lusting rare pieces of card.

Thanks for the offer, but no thanks. I feel that the suspense of opening each pack not knowing what's inside is better than mapping it. Even opening up a bad rare is a good experience for me, because usually there're good staple cards in with it.

But I digress, to each their own.

If it's important to you to get a specific card rather than the random unknown of a booster, then just buy singles and skip the booster pack.

@MagnorCriol: This is actually used to map out packs, take out the valuable cards, then sell the unopened packs via ebay or other method. It's the reason you should never buy booster boxes from places unless it has the original WotC seal or random packs online.

What is this, I don't even....

I don't even buy boosters. Or singles for that matter.

I'm a pro, and like all pros should, I buy halves. That's right. Mother freakin' halves. Just tear that sum bit in half and ship it right to my front door.

Because pro, yo.

Fascinating, but I'll never use it.

As it's been previously stated, if you're that deep into extorting the packs you buy, then why not just buy singles and skip the middleman?

@zandl: Because you can actually make money doing this. Buy a booster box at a discount from somewhere (or wholesale if you're a shop), take out the packs with expensive cards in them, sell the expensive cards as singles, then sell the leftover boosters online (or if you're a shady business: your store) at a reduced price.

Suppose you got in your box and sold the following:

Thundermaw Hellkite - $35
Thragtusk - $15
Jace, Memory Adept - $15
Drowned Catacomb - $5
Rhox Faithmender - $10

...for a total of $80. You have let's say 25 leftover packs of M13 that you didn't open (you opened these five rares and six other packs to map the box). You decide to sell those on ebay for $3.00 USD each. So you've made $155 (give or take) from your box you got off Amazon for $100. This doesn't include any good commons/uncommons (like Rancor ) or foils.

That's why people use pack mapping.

Bleh. I know it's my own opinion about it, but I think it just takes the fun out of packs.

To put it into perspective, this is like when I discovered what EVs and IVs are in Pokemon games and it ruined online battles for me. After that, my Pokemon weren't good enough to compete and I never felt comfortable using them unless they were perfect.

Similarly, if I start using this, I'll never want to buy packs again unless I've mapped out a box beforehand.

@zandl: I agree. I love opening boosters for the surprise factor. But I've also never bought a box. I think the most I've ever bought in one go was maybe eight boosters?
