if i give Boros Reckoner lifelink and use Vizkopa Guildmage second ability then chose to have reckoner do the damage to himself......i win right? cause i can just have him keep dealing damage to himself over and over again and gain life each time and my opponent will just keep losing life till hes at zero

Not unless you somehow prevent him from dieing. Otherwise, he will die of state-based effects after three damage. Note that you can still gain infinite life even without the guildmage.

He would have to be indistructible as well, or you'd only be able to do it once.

If only there was a two mana charm in standard that made this possible.

You'd probably want to run Swift Justice and/or Gift of Orzhova ...This could be a fun alt-win con in a RWB deck

now is this posted with the understanding of Exquisite Blood 's interaction with Vizkopa Guildmage

Yeah, the interaction allows you to not rely only on the two cards. Alternate win cons win you games, especially since Boros Reckoner isn't so bad a creature in a vacuum.

I made a boros deck using Boros Reckoner , Boros Charm or Frontline Medic for the indestructible, and Swift Justice or Moment of Heroism for the life gain. No black needed to complicate things

@treevore the Black only makes your mana base more expensive. But it also contains your win-con. I suppose if youre an aggro deck that can't win with infinite life something is wrong.

I'm a little confused. The ruling for Boros Reckoner on Gatherer states "Boros Reckoners first ability will trigger even if it is dealt lethal damage." That being said, why does he need to be indestructible? He should just need Lifelink and damage done to him. Of course, he'll die but after having cycled a million times.

After the resolution of each instance of the ability, state-based actions are checked. If Boros Reckoner has lethal damage marked on him, he will go to the graveyard.

So what this means for the combo, is if he's not indestructible you gain 3+ life, depending on what the source of damage is, he dies, then the cycle breaks since the target for "that much damage to target creature or player" has become illegal, he can't target himself if he's not on the battlefield to target

I use Boros Reckoner and Gift of Orzhova for the combo. Although my deck is in no way focused on the life gain, the Johnny side of me can't help but throw in a singleton just to know it could happen.

Check it out, leave a comment. Borzhov

Just wondering about this combo with Five-Alarm Fire . Since Five-Alarm Fire gets a token every time a creature you control deals combat damage. Would that mean that since Boros Reckoner can deal damage an infinite amount of times to itself, you would acquire an infinite number of counters on Five-Alarm Fire and then win the game?

MindAblaze says... #14

No, the damage dealt by Boros Reckoner isn't combat damage. So you don't get the blaze counters.

Well Ground Assault works pretty well on him if your running Naya colors.

I dont get how you keep having him deal damage to himself.

clcoleman15 says... #17

you dont even have to run naya to use ground assault since you can cast reckoner for 3 R you could just run hum in RG

RobnofLoxly says... #18

Ya that's true but, I would rather do it with white for the full combo. X19Sutty93X the effect of Boros Reckoner allows him to do damage to target creature or player when he is dealt damage so, when damage is dealt to him he can target himself and then the damage would trigger his effect again that is as long as he is indestructible. Then by adding Lifelink you gain infinite life.

@X19Sutty93X

He deals damage to target creature. He can target himself.

Another thing worth mentioning is that having 1,000,000,000 life is not an instant win-con, you can be milled or poisoned. Although in an aggro deck, you should be able to win.

It would be fun watching someone lose and have over 9,000 billions life.

Rayenous says... #21

Not to mention that you may play against someone who has the same combo.... both players at 900Billion life could make for a very long game... especially for aggro.

Player 1, "And he deals damage to himself, and again and again, until i have ummm 500 trillion life. End you can concede now"

Player 2 "I'll play platinum angel, and enchant it with indestructibility."

Really you are making the infinite life combo longer buy adding another cost to be greedy and kill your opponent if you want infinite dam. best way turn 2 nearhearth pilgrim turn 3 frontline medic turn 4 boros reckoner soulbond turn 5 viskopa guildmage activate him ability 2 and swing battalion then pray they block reckoner. Sounds stupid right..It is. This combo works in theory but has too many parts and requirements. The infinite life is hard enough to set up especially when people are all wise too it now. Sorry to crush your hopes of this being relevant.

Unless you have Exquisite Blood so that infinite life gain turns into infinite damage with Vizkopa Guildmage .

With Exquisite Blood and Vizkopa Guildmage it deals infinite damage along with the infinite life gain. Here's my take on a deck Using Boros Reckoner , Vizkopa Guildmage , and Exquisite Blood , RWB Combo Humans
