I keep seeing a ton of "infinite life" combos using Boros Reckoner
who cares are about life when you can just have him hit infinity and then just choose your opponent for the final trigger killing your opponent?
I just seeing as an "infinite life combo" instead of a "i just killed you with infinite damage combo" thing.
Am i missing something?
The infinite combo only works because you choose Boros Reckoner as the target of it's own ability. That is the reason why it can continue doing damage, and thus gain infinite life. If you target the opponent using it's ability it ends immediately, as Boros Reckoner's ability cannot trigger, as it did not take damage.

His ability doesn't deal damage equal to the total dealt to him this turn, it's damage equal to the amount that triggered that instance of the ability.

Well that's not how it works. For example make him indestructible, and I swing on you. Then you block with a Deathrite Shaman . Boros Reckoner is dealt one point of damage, so his ability triggers, if you pick him again ( hitting him for one point of damage), his ability triggers, but only for one point of damage. So you can infinitely deal one point of damage to reckoner while he's indestructible, which means that you can only hit you opponent for one point of damage.

i understand both of those but...
infinite (assuming indestructible) last "bullet" at your opponent -> win game.
I'm not confused on why people gain life each "bullet" just that since your going to kill your opponent either way why does it matter if you have infinite life?

If your opponent has one life then the last point of damage would kill your opponent. You only deal one point to reckoner at a time, so you can in turn only deal one point, you can't shoot him for 50 points, and then hit your opponent for 50. Each point resolves separately, so you can only deal one point to another source.

Boros Reckoner + Gift of Orzhova + Boros Charm (as blocked) = infinite life combo. with flying and lifelink the main part of that is the lifelink now with that you can swing with him and then play Boros Charm giving him indestructibility now he can hit himself for the lifelink as many times as you want causing an infinite life loop

How does the last trigger kill someone. Think of it this way:
If you get shot in the foot, you can shoot yourself or someone else, but the original bullet is lost. It is lost in your foot. So if you shoot yourself in the foot 20 times you have 20 bullets that have been used and are gone. With the remaining choice of you can shoot something using one bullet. For one damage essentially.
Now gaining life would be a by bullet trigger. If he had lifelink, it would be like if I paid you a dollar every time you shot anything. So if you shoot yourself 20 times, you make 20 dollars. But in the end you still have the same choice to shoot something once.
