Boros Reckoner + Tragic Slip Combo?

I have a question about the legality of a combo:

If I have Boros Reckoner on the board, and a creature dies while blocking, can I cast Tragic Slip for morbid at Boros Reckoner and direct that damage at my opponent? It seems legal and I'm excited about this combo at FNM this week. My follow-up question to this would be if I cast Boros Charm before Tragic Slip my Boros Reckoner wouldn't die, so if that was legal, that's my choice combo.

If these combos are allowed, I think I'm going to sleeve a playset each of Boros Reckoner , Tragic Slip , and Boros Charm for FNM and hopefully place higher. If anyone can foresee problems with combo from other decks, I'd appreciate your insights.

Tragic Slip doesn't cause damage, but Boros Charm and Blasphemous Act/Harvest Pyre would work. Tragic Slip would actually still kill the Reckoner after a Charm, due to it having 0 or less toughness.

Sorry, but it wouldn't work at all. Tragic Slip does no damage, it only lowers the power and toughness of the creature => No Damage => No effect of Boros Reckoner .

You could cast your Tragic Slip on your Reckoner...but it would die and that would be the end of it...

Tragic slip gives -13/-13 to a creature if another creature has died that turn, this is not the same as Shivan Meteor dealing 13 damage to the Reckoner. The slip changes its power and toughness so that it's a -10/-10, and it is put in the graveyard as a result of having toughness equal to or less than 0.

Thank you for clarifying. Glad to figure this out here than in a first round at FNM. Hahahaha

Boros Reckoner can however be used in an infinite life combo.

Thanks, ifired. I've seen that, but am not sure I want to splash blue in WRB Defend the Ghetto. That combo could be great in the Esper or USA deck I plan to build after the Dragon's Maze release.

@thezeke, Who ever said anything about splashing blue?

ifired, my bad--confused the link with another one I had open looking at Reckoner/Boros Charm/Azorious Charm lifelink loop. I like your suggestion better.

yeah, Tragic Slip doesn't cause any damage. This can also be good because it kills indestructible stuff, because indestructible only stops "destroy" effects or lethal DAMAGE, meaning tragic slip is the best answer to an unpumped Falkenrath Aristocrat . Blasphemous Act , Into the Maw of Hell , and the non-standard Shivan Meteor are what will punish your opponent whilst you control a reckoner, on the other hand, due to them dealing mass damage

Follow up question on technicality/legality: when I set off infinite life gain loop with Boros Reckoner ( I have him paired with Nearheath Pilgrim , cast Boros Charm , then target Boros Reckoner with Searing Spear ), is it okay for me to declare something like, "I cycle this 100 times and add 300 to my life total"? Totally going to do this at FNM this week along with the Blasphemous Act combo so I want to declare it correctly.

As long as you end it by dealing damage to another target, but someone will have to double check me on that one.

when you have an infinite combo, you have to declare a finite # of times you will repeat this combo (you could say i do this 1 billion times and gain 3 billion life) then, at the end of it all, declare a target other than boros reckoner.

can you honestly use this combo at FNM? I soulbond boros, hit it with boros charm to be indestructable and then pillar of flame and boom infinite life
