can Warbringer make Dash a thing?

At minus across the board for all dash costs, does this guy have the potential to power a dash based deck? There are many dashers that would be extremely compelling to play at less such as himself, Sprinting Warbrute, Vaultbreaker, Goblin Heelcutter, and Flamerush Rider

Turn one bolt... Turn two swing for seven with Vaultbreaker... Turn three swing for game. Very inconsistent since you need this guy in your opening hand but very powerful none the less.

DarkMagician how do you swing for seven with Vaultbreaker on turn two? You have two Mana on turn two, he costs three just for dash. And how does a Vaulbreaker ever swing for seven?

I was already trying to make dash a thing with Fate Reforged. It wasn't as good as I imagined, but with Warbringer and the new Pitiless Hordes, I'll try some new plays.

on topic, yep. wanting to brew a Dash deck now because of this card.

I think he believes that the ability works while its in your hand, that way it would only cost to dash and Vaultbreaker could be dashed out with it turn 2

Wouldn't that be a great ability!
I can definitely see how it being cmc 4 makes the deck difficult and slow. I guess the best way to test it is to actually build it out but considering the majority of dash is red (and my personal distaste for black...) I may try out a mono red version. On the plus side, the deck should be relatively cheap.

CaptainWoosh I think he meant swing for 7 damage total on turn two because of turn one bolt (Lightning Bolt?). But I'm confused about his comment on a turn two dash with Vaultbreaker lol
March 10, 2015 10:46 a.m.
You still have to play for his dash ability since it reads "as long as this creature is on the battlefield"

I'm starting to think he can especially with Pitless Horde just spoiled there's now enough decent dash cards to build a full dash deck. You can wipe the field with Anger of the Gods or Crux of Fate and not have to worry about your creatures then play his dash and spam dash cards.

Ooh, this comboed with Purphoros, God of the Forge could really punish your opponent since everything will be cheap and under constant recasts

branston567 You hit the nail on the head, I didn't properly read the card lol. That would be a disgusting ability.

4 Warbringer 3-4 Goblin Heelcutter seems strong; t3, Healcutter swing. t4, Warbringer + Healcutter. t5, Warbringer + Healcutter + other dash. Also makes Foundry Street Denizen even better.

If there was more ways of bringing him onto the field for free then yeah he might stand a chance. But the way I could see it working is if there's an open mana base of 10 and him summon first then the rest of them come in. It could potential be a meta deck if we have the right cards. But for now it's not going no where. It's stats fall into light bolt range. Then you have black which has kill switches and white which has removal. Realistically speaking I'm no professional or anything but we would need a serious amount of good cards maybe like a good 2-4 cards to come out in order for dash to ever become a thing.

I guess you could always put some white in it for the chained to the rocks to fit the lower dash costs. There's also banishing light. Valorous stance and a bunch of good spells for them to do something on. Only problem I see is draw power but I'm hoping them going back up to your hand would be enough

Setting aside the fact that Warbringer is really slow, the concept of a Dash deck is not viable.
Dash is a great mechanic but should not be found on more than perhaps 6 or so cards since using it means not building your board that turn, thus sacrificing tempo for a little immediate damage.
Having lots of Dash cards would require you to play some as normal creatures, which means you are playing underpowered cards.

Not really in yugioh yosanju cards in yugioh go back to your hand at end phase much like magic. That's where it looses board presence but still have resources for the next plan. I could diffently see an all out dasher deck top for locals. If build with the mardu colors up you have access to a good amount of things for removal. Chained to the Rocks Thoughtseize Valorous Stance Magma Jet Hero's Downfall bunch of things. Then for your turn swarm the board leave some mana behind for responses and repeat. Depending on the match up you have a godoy chance at responses due to the fact that some of their creatures get summon sickness. After that you can chose the control style or not. I personally dont think you would have to hard cast anything. I mean for what? So it can get destoryed on the field for the turn? I would personally love to build this as my mine for the rest of the Kahn/theros block.

I could see a Dash control deck or something perhaps, but you would still play a minimum amount of the very best Dash guys and devote the vast majority to removal, draw power, etc.
I can't profess to know much about yugioh but I do know that there is nothing that equates to the concept of mana and its relation to tempo. Tapping your mana for no improvement in your boardstate or interaction with theirs is essentially a wasted turn.

Only problem I see happening Is how badly these guys would get their butt kicked to hornet queen. Usually aggro decks loose to heavy death touch. But as far as a good creature line up I'd have to go with
4x warbringer
4x Vaultbreaker
March 11, 2015 11:48 p.m.
What about creatures like Mardu Shadowspear and Pitiless Horde?
Are they good to use in a dash deck?
Pitiless Horde may cause 2 damage each turn, but it's a 5/3 with 3CMC and can dash to avoid the penalty.
And you can prevent the damage with Palace Siege or feed him to Butcher of the Horde later.

@rpmrn100 Good idea. Running black would also allow more removal and sideboard options. Palace Siege is a good idea to combat deathtouch.

Might be too expensive for the deck. The save plan is for you to drop that and has a downfall up then I could prolly see that working but then again it might slow down your aggro. Where you could just use something like March of the Returned to fuel up two and use less of ur mana

You could also just use Kolaghan's Command I've been moving that in and out of the sideboard of the B/R dash deck I intend to make.

Yeah that too would be a badass option it has four different functions. And it could serve you as something else other than getting a card to your hand
March 12, 2015 7:53 p.m.
Aonther way of using dash is replacing some instants with creatures.
We could use Mardu Scout as a weaker Lightning Bolt, but that returns to our hand if the opponent has no creature or doesn't block.
This way we can make board presence in case the Warbringer or other creatures aren't still in play in the early game. And later use them for 1 mana.

Now that we have all the spoiler for Dragons of Tharkir, it looks like dash can be a thing thanks to cards like Ambuscade Shaman and Impact Tremors.
I think that this could be a good deck:
4x Lightning Berzerker
4x Warbringer
4x Ambuscade Shaman
3x Reckless Imp
2x Mardu Scout
2x Alesha, Who Smiles at Death
2x Impact Tremors
2x Stormrider Rig
2x Foul-Tongue Shriek

Looks pretty good man the whole deck is basically uncommons and commons so it should be a pretty neat budget deck to make

Do u think they could possibly put the rest of the cards in the system before the sneak peak I wanna get some mock boards down ;)

I would love that too. I really want to test this deck. I'm trying with dash since Fate Reforged and now they really gave us good cards with the mechanic.

Yeah me too man I was playing naya with flamerush rider and ediolon combo. It worked pretty well got me second at FNM a few weeks back. But then I traded most of my stuff for a yugioh deck seeing as I didn't have one. But now it's pretty neat cause I think I can keep my sultai and make this on the side. Wanted to make the flip to modern thou... I'll see how it goes

I've played some good dash decks. I think the fault of the creation is that too much is relied on dash. It looks more like a theme/gimmick than competitive. If someone could utilize powerful dash creatures and another wincon I believe they might have something.
It's not my style, tho. But more power to those who like it.

My friend and me made a dash-themed deck with him and Ambuscade Shaman in the center. The usual misconception is that everyone assume the deck will be aggro-based, but in reality it is a tempo deck. Control early board with Lightning Strike, Wild Slash, Ultimate Price, etc until you got Warbringer/enough mana to rain down the dash creeps.

I've certainly had some fun with it. Dropping a bunch of stuff on the cheap and triggering both Mardu Ascendancy and Ambuscade Shaman hits an opponent like a freight train. The problem I've noticed is that the Warbringer itself costs 3 mana to dash in, and if you hardcast it and opponents realize what you're doing? Removal is definitely a problem.
So yeah, it still doesn't feel super-competitive to me. But it's definitely gotten a hell of a boost since DTK came out.
magnetcrocodile, do you have the decklist for your dash deck? I'd love to see it.

Sure thing. Just copy this off the deckbuilder:
4x Ambuscade Shaman (DTK)
3x Bloodfell Caves (FRF)
4x Bloodstained Mire (KTK)
4x Goblin Heelcutter (FRF)
3x Lightning Strike (M15)
4x Mardu Scout (FRF)
4x Mardu Shadowspear (FRF)
3x Mardu Strike Leader (FRF)
9x Mountain (KTK)
3x Outpost Siege (FRF)
7x Swamp (KTK)
4x Ultimate Price (DTK)
4x Warbringer (DTK)
4x Wild Slash (FRF)
Just don't use the fetchland and it'll be about $40 cheaper. Still working on some kinks but this one run quite smoothly

Pretty similar to mine, but as you said it has more of a tempo setup. I might just try that out, thanks!

I'm trying to play R/B dash deck at FNMs, but hardcasting Ambuscade Shaman or Warbringer is just lost turn, everybody has some removal ready these days. When you are dashing other creatures their sorcery speed removals are just sitting in their hands waiting for some target. And without Hero's Downfall a planeswalker on board behind some good blocker (dragon, rhino, courser, hornet queen tokens...) means loss. This week I want to sideboard Duress to discard those pesky walkers.

If he cost less, then sure. However, costing is too expensive to be a standard viable deck. However, I'm sure there will be a lot of awesome draft decks based around this guy
