Cards that slow down aggro blitz?

So I have a rainbow defender deck that whomps everything but fast aggro decks. Got annihilated by a naya blitz last night >:/So here're my early game MVPs vs blitz:Haunted guardian Fog bankAngelic wallElixir (to recover life if my deck pays slow)O-ring

Any suggestions on what I can change to put the brakes on a fast deck? I'm tired of sweating every time I see emissary, elite, and experiment one!

If you upload your deck to the site it would be easier for us to help you with it.

Right on. I'll work on that after lunch. I appreciate the help.

Blind Obedience or detain would be my best bet, but maybe an examination of the deck will prove me wrong. :)

Feeling of Dread , Azorius Charm , Devour Flesh , Gloom Surgeon , Searing Spear , Supreme Verdict and Vampire Nighthawk are all way better than the ones you mentioned.

Also Terminus .

Yes, Terminus amazing vs aggro if miracled early. Also Farseek speeds you up, Centaur Healer and Thragtusk gain you life, and Restoration Angel ambushes attackers/blinks Healer or Thrag.

It will mostly depend on your colors (main) and being 5 colors makes it hard to narrow down what would be best.

If Green/White are two of the main colors, then Loxodon Smiter is one of the best early cards as they cannot simply remove it with a Searing Spear and will require an extra card (which you basically win a 2 for 1 at that point).

If Green/Black are more of the primary, then Abrupt Decay and SOMETIMES Golgari Charm can work depending on the "Blitz" version you are facing.

Oh, and there is always old trusty "You shall NOT PAAAASSSS" Rhox Faithmender :)

Oh yeah, Loxodon Smiter is amazing. Better than Centaur Healer because it doesn't die to Searing Spear and blocks all the 3/3s in aggro

@detentionsphere: Centaur Healer is way better than Loxodon Smiter against aggro. It blocks Burning-Tree Emissary , Rakdos Cackler , etc. on top of giving you three life, which is the equivalent of a free chump block. There's not that many 3/3s floating around in standard at the moment...mostly beefed up Champion of the Parish and Dreg Mangler .

Well any 1- or 2-drop cards are what you would want to focus on getting. Some great blue ones: Unsummon , Blustersquall , Cyclonic Rift , Inaction Injunction , Hands of Binding .

No, Smiter is way better than Healer. Healer usually just eats a Spear and gets attacked past, and here is a list of relevant 3/3 creatures: Boros Reckoner which kills Healer and trades with Smiter), Dreg Mangler , Mogg Flunkies , Experiment One , Flinthoof Boar , Hellrider . But the main thing is that most aggro decks have to 2-for-1 themselves to deal with Smiter while Healer just gets Speared. The only situation in which Healer is better is when you are running Restoration Angel .

...which the only reason you wouldn't run Restoration Angel is if you can't afford them.

I guess so, but my point was that, in a vacuum, Smiter is better than Healer vs aggro

Have you run G/W/X vs Naya Blitz? Having a single Centaur Healer they will likely hit you for 7 or 8 on turn 2 (depending on their draw). If they get to spear your centaur, you don't get to blink it with Restoration Angel and you will likely be in a REALLY bad spot. At 6-8 life after their 3rd turn (which is just one more attack).

In my testing, Loxodon Smiter has been the "wall" to stop blitz. It empties out one more card from their hand and thus makes it more likely that you will stabilize with a turn 4 Rhox Faithmender , or some other 4 drop

I know it may not look very competitive, but I'll usually go 3-2 with it at FNM. There's something very satisfying about using Door to Nothingness on people :)
