Cash grab or a way to stop power creep.

Hi all newish to magic and I had a thought. How would others feel about Wotc reprinting a block for standard? I think that if they kept the mechanics and rarities the same but updated art and flavor for an older set that people loved (like say mirrodin) it could be a good way to reprint cards and settle standard for a year or so. And my idea is a pure reprint not revisiting the plane, it would be weird story wise, I still like the idea though. I know that some would see this as a cash grab by Wotc but I think with the correct set it could be more beneficial than detrimental. what are your thoughts? what set would you like them to reprint?

so as im newer to magic I don't know a lot of the older sets. what would be a set that did not have a mechanic that Wotc said they would no longer reprint?

I would buy a box of original Ravnica. That set seems fun :)

Most core sets would be safe.
There are even some cool cards from core sets that could use reprints.

That would be fun in draft, but would the set be played at all in standard? Let's say they reprinted some cool and beloved sets like Innistrad or original Ravnica: how would those cards (especially creatures) fare against the ridiculos OP stuff that is being printing in new sets like Ikoria?

to those that think that the old set would not be played in constructed. that may be true but I think that once war of the spark set rotates the interactions between some of the old sets and the newer stuff would be fun. its kind of some of the charm of say commander. I will say there is potential of unfair/unfun stuff. I think it could still be a fun way to stop power creep and lower the insanity of current sets.

No idea about "power creep" (or even what it means) but I would love to see some blocks being republished. Even if it was only for collection (despite the new presentation) purposes and was not allowed in most restricted competitions
The block logic is also something I miss: there was more time to "explore" a mechanic with a few variants sprinkled into the two subsequent expansions of the main set, same for the thematics. An example: no-mana costs being used in a little expansion for an ability that appeared in the main set. Now, with 2xx cards and basta, you can't even look forward to see what would be fun to include to your last "theme" deck. No, the new things are already replaced 3 months later.
Among those I know, blocks like Mirage, Tempest (despite some spells), Mercadia, Invasion, Onslaught, Kamigawa (despite, maybe two or three cards) and the original Ravnica would not seem overpowered in general, and while they could even seem to be at the opposite end (weak), it would be certainly fun.
The problem is that I'm not sure why long-time players would like to revisit those cards and build again around them. Interactions with the last series if allowed in Standard? And there would be none of those walkers to serve as the selling "poster child".
PS: also, I would dislike to see the few non-T3 rares magically becoming Ultra-rares.

Seems OP was saying a reprint of a set as opposed to any individual cards. That being said I rather do like the idea of a “Standard Masters” which could pull cards from throughout Magic’s history.
