Cheap Standard Decks?

Standard forum

Posted on Feb. 17, 2014, 10:37 p.m. by JonRules12

So I am not sure if people are gonna get mad at me for posting this. I have been wanting to get into MTG more by going to FNM but I need a standard deck. I was wondering if there is any cheap standard decks. I am talking like $100 or less. Apparently R/B is cheap, so is mono red. If anyone has any ideas, just let me know, thanks!

UW Heroic, UWx pillow fort control, UBx defender mill, Red deck wins...

These are pretty much your cheapest options.

I'll try to find some links to example decks for ya.

this is my g/w deck that is really fun to play. It isn't the best, but it isn't the worst. If you wanted to break the point of the budget, add Voice of Resurgence .

Sometimes you've just gotta burn something. Good example of RDW

Pillow Fort Keeper - Budget Version Example of Pillow fort control and defender mill together

It takes a Fabled Hero to be a True Hero! (FNM) Good example of a super cheap heroic deck

Oh my god, those decks all look really strong, even for budget decks. Leaning towards Sometimes you've just gotta burn something. because I really want to get into aggro. I also like the Pillow Fort Keeper - Budget Version. Thank you.

ThatBlueMage Oh wow O_o im flattered you put my deck in this I was literally just gonna put my deck It takes a Fabled Hero to be a True Hero! (FNM) but yeah my heroic deck is pretty cheap to put together and has worked great so far :)

Yeah it looks really solid. If I end up getting enough money before RTR rotates out I might pick up that deck.

The biggest thing that tends to drive up the price of decks is nonbasic lands. Therefore, mono-colored decks are usually your best bet, and unfortunately Mutavault won't be an option. RDW is the most established of the budget options, but you could even do Black Devotion with suitable replacements for Thoughtseize , Desecration Demon , Hero's Downfall , etc. Mono White could also be good without Brimaz, King of Oreskos .

Yeah, I mean it definitely goes up with the shock lands. I kinda thought scry lands would be worth more but I guess not. I could do a B/R and pick up Dreadbore if that's still standard. Duress instead of Thoughtseize maybe.

Hahah yeah, I heard about a really fun build with 16 lands and literally only 1 drops. I should get that list off my friend

All depends on what you want to play, really. It'd probably be easier if you just tell us what you want to do in the game, and we could suggest / help you make a deck. There's really a budget option for every type of gameplay.

You said that you want to go Aggro, but there's multiple kinds of Aggro. Do you want to burn out the opponent and get things over as quick as possible? Build up an army of little dudes? Build up to huge creatures? That's one of the awesome things about Magic, you can do literally anything that you want*.

*within reason, and within the confines of legal cards in the game, of course

JonRules12 says... #16

Of course. I really want to try a few types of decks. I want to try Black/White control. R/B rush. I love a mix between burn and aggro with creatures. I think I might just buy the Sometimes you've just gotta burn something. if that is okay?

No need to ask permission man, it's your game. XD

I think that's a pretty good choice for taking to a smaller tournament. Hope you do well with it!

If you takeout the Thoughtseize from the sideboard (which I have yet to finish....) its under 100 dollars and works well I use it as my main standard deck in irl. :3

You can easily build a standard deck for under $100. Check out the budget section of deck builds for ideas.

Here are a couple of standard decks that you can build on the cheap.

No Fate But What We make a couple of strategic card swaps will drop the price of this deck drastically.

TimALingPingADing this deck is less that $100 and is so much fun to play, really keeps opponents on their toes.
