Criminally Underplayed Cards

Standard forum

There have been a lot of economics posts regarding "sleepers" rising in value now that there are new cards to brew with.

My question is: Which cards are criminally underplayed in the current Standard, but are unlikely to see any love in the near future? Which cards did you have high hopes for, only to see your dreams crushed?

I'm a big fan of Boon Satyr , Duskmantle Seer , and Haunted Plate Mail . Of those three, only the Satyr sees any play at all. This makes me sad.

I really love Prophet of Kruphix . I think its a great card with a ton of potential, and one of my favorite cards from the whole block so far. I wish the meta could expand from just 2 decks so she might actually see play.

Underworld Cerberus I understand why it is not played a lot but its a cheap alternative to the Stormbreath Dragon and will completely destroy if you play a lot of removal which a black/red deck should.

Scion of Vitu-Ghazi is pretty ridiculous for a card that sees virtually no play. Curve out after Advent of the Wurm during the opponent's end step? Yes please. Even in the worse case scenario, you're getting two flyers along with a hefty 4/4.

I also agree that Prophet of Kruphix is underplayed simply because, as kmcree said, it doesn't fit into the 2 or 3 decks that make Pro Top 8's. It seems to get a lot of homebrew love in my meta, tho, including in my current deck.

The last one I'll mention is Ogre Battledriver . There are so many ridiculous things that can be done with that card, spamming tokens being the most appealing. Whenever I brew with him, opponents learn very quickly that he demands immediate removal. "Very quickly" as in next turn.

tman007 Yes, but i think Underworld Cerberus has quite a few options to be playable. Wouldn't you agree? We just listed three

TrystonSpencer Yea it's definitely good if you can play around its drawback. I used to play it until it turned into "Pay 5 mana, discard Underworld Cerberus , an opponent discards a removal spell and puts all creatures from his graveyard into his hand. "

I do not see much of Frontline Medic or Ratchet Bomb , even in the side. Could just be my meta though.

I also agree heavily with Boon Satyr and Haunted Plate Mail

I use Frontline in my R/W midrange deck. Especially game 2's it keeps my other creatures safe due to fact they can't trade favorably.

I'm surprised that Frontline Medic isn't used in Esper Humans decks since it would allow them to play Supreme Verdict as a one-sided wipe.

I do that in my casual g/w humans tribal deck Hero of the Parish. Totally owns.

I agree with Agent of the Fates and Prophet of Kruphix .

I am using them in No Fate But What We make and Stop it Tim, Ping Ping Ping... respectively.

If you plan the deck out well they can be very powerful cards.

I own 13 copies of Prophet and I abuse the shizzout of her. Definitely underrated. Although it seems people are starting to realise how good she actually is. Many people still believe that a 5 drop that doesn't win the game is a waste. Until I beat down on them in My Simic deck as they try to keep my giant army from growing even though I play most my creatures during their turn.

For me Rubblebelt Raiders seems to see very little play, which baffles me. Wouldn't Gruul Devotion love her? Apparently not. Me, I destroy with her. Swing her a BTE and a Legion Loyalist and the game goes nuts in your favour. Throw in Bow of Nylea and you have one of the greatest synergies in standard.

I've bought playsets of some cards that are $1-$2 and I think are underplayed and will see more play in the future. They are:

Reaper of the Wilds

Anger of the Gods

Prognostic Sphinx

Hundred-Handed One (this card is surprisingly powerful). I've gotten two playsets for $3, and I think he will be good after Desecration Demon rotates.

if used correctly, i believe that Erebos's Emissary could be standard playable, seeing as how it completely wrecks in limited.

Really? I avoided playing that card in my limited tournament.

in draft, it comepletly destroys, when bestowed, it can pump creatures to insane amounts, provides targets for March of the Returned , triggers heroic, and can dodge most removal in creature form, and most of the above listed.
