If a source would deal damage to a permanent or player, it deals double that damage to that permanent or player instead.

Yes, at 5 CMC that's high, but this is the amplifier Mr. Boros Reckoner has been looking for:

  1. Anger of the Gods : all creatures take 6, and since Boros Reckoner just took 6, you take 12. I used to love the Boros Reckoner /Blasphemous Act combo, this new one is great!
  2. Searing Blood your reckoner: he takes 4, which in turn deals 8 to your opponents face... oh yeah take another 6 from Searing Blood .
  3. Fated Conflagration your reckoner for 10, you take 20 damage. GG
  4. Good old Lightning Strike the reckoner for 6, you take 12. And if you're holding that Boros Charm take 8 more.

Let's not forget Satyr Firedancer : burn and clear the field. Hell even Izzet Staticaster will no longer need Gorgon's Head to be able to kill most of the aggro creatures out there now.

Yes... I like the possibilities with DotTG.

Except that you take the 6 from the searing blood because you were the controller.

Caraculiambro nice catch... Oops sheepish grin. I got a little too excited there. Ok, that one is bad, except as a finisher but Searing Blood /Dictate of the Twin Gods without the reckoner will still be a devastating interaction. There are many other possibilities, e.g. Warleader's Helix (gain 8 life, deal 16 through reckoner). Heck, even Ral Zarek looks alright with this in mind (hit the reckoner for 6, deal 12). You get the idea.

Warleader's Helix won't double the life gained. It just says "you gain 4 life". I'm interested to see how this will go. In mono red, it takes 6 turns for it to take off and it revolves around Boros Reckoner (not entirely, but necessary to quadruple a shock spell). Maybe a non-reckoner centered deck will pop up and wreck face.

Maybe pair DotTG with Keranos >:). Draw/reveal Lightning Strike deal 6 damage then cast it and deal another 6.

I'm pretty excited so far on how Izzet may turn out to be. Izzet has been drawing the short straws this whole block, but this may make up for it.

Gienah that's another way I'm thinking about it too. Perhaps in a BUG shell for the ramp. who knows? Blast of Genius for the win? My inner Johnny is happy as the possibilities spin.

I could see myself using Dictate in conjunction with my reckoners though. Thanks for pointing out some uses.

Rayenous hit it on the head in another thread:

"If you're holding that Boros Charm , make your Boros Reckoner Indestructible... then hit him with any damage... even a Shock .

2 to the reckoner...target the reckoner with his own ability... 4 to the reckoner...target the reckoner with his own ability... 8 to the reckoner...target the reckoner with his own ability... 16 to the reckoner...target the reckoner with his own ability... 32 to your opponent..."

Outstanding!

Or dictate of the twin gods with the izzet god. Card draw or 6 damage every turn. I could handle that.

Only worry I have is that DotTG doubles damage done to you as well, BUT IT HAS FLASH! Flash on their turn and burn away before they kill you. So hope you can do enough damage on your turn before they murderize you.

I think I want this in an American control shell: Reckoner, anger, boros charm, DotTG, burn, counters, draw.

i like this in an izzet deck. the blue flash howling mine is awesome too, since it gives you the advantage first. cool stuff in this set for sure.

maxon izzet could work too (Blast of Genius or Ral Zarek anyone?) But I think I want the splash of W for Sphinx's Revelation .

Apoptosis the infinite combo is back in standard im really excited since this is the type of cards i really like to play with this is what makes Red fun

Circle of infinite Damage

Strionic Resonator : Quadruple damage? I already like its synergy with Boros Reckoner .

I think izzet control with Epic Experiment , RDW with Possibility Storm could also be fun.

And how messed up would it be if shock lands did damage (as opposed to pay life -I had to double check! Lol.)

April 8, 2014 6:37 p.m.

Personally I think this will make double strike insane. I'd look out for a doublestrike-based deck. I mean you'd only need to get a Fabled Hero to be a 5/5.

Heck, even Two-Headed Cerberus + Titan's Strength + Dictate of the Twin Gods = 16 damage. Given the WR god, some sort of double-strike based deck is likely going to be very viable.

Feels like a win more card. The fact that your taking duble damage to means you need to win the turn you drop it or you might die on the crack back.

KingSorin says... #18

Why bother even targeting reckoner while this is out? You have 5 devotion, so just cast Fanatic of Mogis , and deal them 12. Also note: this is any damage, including combat. This can just be used after declare blocks to deal twice as much.

KingSorin says... #19

ChrisHansonBiomancin, unfortunately, it's a replacement effect and not a triggered ability, so no, Strionic Resonator doesn't work, unless you mean to copy reckoner's ability.

Fated conflagration the boros reckoner for ten, then re target the boros reckoner until you decide to target a player then gg.

I run an American style control with dictate in it and I've seen the benefit from flashing it in. You do have to be careful on when you cast it but 90% of the time I win on my turn if it's a boros/conflagration combo or just swinging with double stormbreaths, or even making a stormbreath monstrous and dealing 12-14 to your opponent, I've set up my scry mechanic for 3-4 turns with keranos up to finish games out that way also. It's an underrated card right now that I've only seen used in red aggro decks.

Lacken link to your deck?

Also do you know what is also a 5 drop red enchantment? Possibility Storm ! I've considered game 1 DotTG abusing that synergy in an American control shell to Possibility Storm /Eidolon of Rhetoric soft lock game 2 as a way to throw off my opponent. NO IDEA whether that would work!

May 27, 2014 6:31 p.m.

I've been running 2 Dictate of the Twin Gods in my R/u Devotion deck, Izzetbreath Dragon.

I absolutely love this card. It has won me many games from a stalled board state. If I play it game one then I always side it out for game 2, as people WILL bring in enchantment hate to deal with it. I love how it interacts with Boros Reckoner .

I was playing against a G/R monsters build on Games Day and was losing pretty bad game 1. He had a Polukranos, World Eater and several Sylvan Caryatid out, where I only had a single Boros Reckoner . He attacked with Polukranos, I blocked with the reckoner and flashed in Dictate of the Twin Gods . 10 damage dealt to the Reckoner, and 20 to my opponent. It was easily my best play of the day.

Apoptosis. My deck is called Dictated by America!

I've had some success with it and I've really enjoyed playing it but it's slow against aggro decks.

Here's my prototype in a 'merica build:

. I think it's got lots of card draw and answers to problems, but perhaps not enough removal. It's not really strictly a control build, at least not in the traditional sense. Lacken and Gorgosaurusrex please let me know what you think!
