Dissipate in the current meta
Standard forum

There are so many options out there now for counters in standard. Some have multiple benefits, on top of countering an opponent's spell, that make certain ones more worth playing than others. Some let you scry, some have your oppnent mill the top X of their deck, one even deals damage whether it counters or not, and then there's Dissipate
.
For the cost of you get to counter an opponent's spell and exile it from the game. Seeing as how, in the new meta, there are cards that bring the graveyard into play in multiple ways, where exactly does Dissipate
stand? Is it still something to have mainboard, or does it belong in the sideboard as a 1-3 of, or does it just not belong anywhere in a deck now that there options that have other benefits?
I would like to know what everyone thinks about this card now compared to how well it worked in the Innistrad/RTR era of standard.
It's probably a more meta dependent answer than just "Dissolve is better cause you scry". Delve and reanimator are legitimate things and the exile from Dissipate could play a huge role. If you find people at your LGS are playing decks that utilize their graveyard a lot then Dissipate is the obvious mainboard choice. If your not running into decks like that then Dissolve has it's merits because of the additional information you get about the top of your library.

Dissolve will be the preferred mainboard choice in most decks, just because it is going to have a beneficial effect no matter the situation. Dissipate is a little more situational in the sense that, with Dissolve around, the only way it outclasses it is by hindering Reanimation and Delve decks, which are a thing in standard now, but not so widespread that Dissipate needs to be mainboard. Side out Dissolve for Dissipate against Delve/Reanimation.
Dissipate was huge in Innistrad because of all the reanimation, plus it didn't have the counterpart it now has in Dissolve . In general terms it is outclassed by Dissolve , but in the right situation it can be just as good if not better.

Really comes down to how much you value the scry of Dissolve . My deck has enough looks at the top that the scry means almost nothing, so I play Dissipate and enjoy incidental value against some decks.

I feel like there is only one card that Dissipate cares about in the current meta, and that is Dig Through Time . Dissipate does a good job against Dig decks from filling up their graveyard, but I don't know if it's fast enough to work there. You only can have 4 Dissipate in a deck, and I think I'd agree with the above thinking that Dissolve is probably the better option there. But I don't play control that much, so I could be off there.

I was running Dissipate as well as Dissolve in esper. I think they're both fairly solid counter spells in standard right now. With things like Whip of Erebos and Delve being in now, it can be viable to keep some things out of the yard

It's a viable sideboard option, but for the same cost Dissolve is much better for the scry.
