Don't be afraid to brew!

I've been playing Naya Dragons for the past month or so and have been loving it, and the top 8s flowed like sweet, sweet honey. However, I really wanted something different. I've pretty much been playing various top-tier decks like Mardu Dragons, Abzan Control and Aggro, Jeskai Tokens, etc. for the last few months of Standard, and the variety of deck possibilities was astounding. This really is a fun and diverse Standard format.
But even though I was playing a huge variety of decks, most of them used a specific set of known powerful cards, leading to very predictable play patterns. This is a pretty common occurrence in the last few months of a Standard format. So I opted to go off he beaten path, and instead of choosing to build a great deck with great cards, I wanted to build a great deck with my favorite cards.
And so my journey of building a deck with Daxos of Meletis, Citadel Siege, and Ephara, God of the Polis began. And, to my surprise, I was able to get to the finals of FNM with it! I guess that what I'm saying is that it's possible to build around cards you love. You just need to have faith in your own deckbuilding abilities, seek help or suggestions when you need to, and not actually set your expectations too high. Magic can be about winning, it can be about self-expression, but it can also be about both if you put the work in!
I don't like to normally include decklists outside of the deck help forum to keep discussion focused on the topic, but for reference:

I agree! Home brewing is great. I usually home brew at my local FNM to relax and have fun. When I attend IQs or PPTQs I tend to take my battle tested deck. This is what I'm brewing this month!

It's important to remember, that every deck, even the ones that win GPs and Pro Tours, started out as a brew somewhere.

Since Khans of Tarkir came out, the extremely vicious Azorious control deck died because of rotation. No more Sphinx's Revelation, no more Jace, Architect of Thought, no more Supreme Verdict. As this deck died, tons of aggressive creatures from all colors appeared. From my point of view, now, Control decks are so low compared to last Standard, that any deck with some kind of synergy and speed will work and give good results: Tribal decks (minotaurs, warriors, zombies, centaurs, goblins), Abzan decks with 4 Rhinos and 56 other cards, Tokens decks with Purphoros, Heroic decks, Constellation decks, Sultai with 4 Sidisi, 4 Whips and 52 other card...anything can work if built correctly :)
