Don't Know What to Play

I have a G/W midrange (no voices or fleecemanes) that's complete, or as complete as it's going to get for now, playable this Friday. I also have an Izzet Cyclops deck that can be ready by Friday. These are the only two decks I have access to and I have zero money to be spending on cards. Which would you play, or would you bother playing at all? I've not played in a good two months or so out of frustration with the format in general and the lack of a solid deck. (I lost a lot of pieces out of my G/W at rotation and it never really regained traction.) I figure the first Friday a new set is out might be the ideal time to slip back in.

If you are going to a tournament because you want to win, we'd both have to see the decks and have you describe the local meta. If you just want to have fun, then it really depends on your own preferences. Either way, we can't really help you out much, especially if you have no way to procure new cards.

I'm just wondering what might have a better chance. I'm not there solely to win, but nothing ruins my night more than going 0-4. So G/W creature Midrange or a spell slinging Izzet relying on Cyclops. Guess I just don't know what to play this set really. Everyone's about the devotion and the handful of cards that are useful are super pricey; there's not really a middle ground. Figured talking it out might help, but it's whatevs.

You should check that your LGS is even hosting constructed. Typically, release week FNM is a sealed Limited event.

Our game shop is big enough that they have both going. (We average anywhere from 150-200 every week, split between standard and sealed.)

I'm not trying to be harsh, but there isn't really much we can do to help, assuming there is a standard FNM. We don't know your decks beyond a very basic description, we don't know your local meta, and we don't know what cards from the Prerelease people will be experimenting with. There are just too many unknowns. Pick whichever you enjoy running more, or if you can't decide, play them against each other and take the winner.

You don't know what to play? Well, Magic: The Gathering, of course. What else, Parcheesi? ;P

If they are equal in Strength, You could pick the deck that's less popular, as there will probably be more hate cards targeting the popular decks. Goldfish them. Or flip a coin. If you don't like what it shows, there's your answer.

Could it be that you are referring to updated versions of these two decks, from your profile?

Create an American Tempo Deck. Which is very similar and easy to mold from izzet. It CAN win. Especially against the devotion decks. But it has major trouble against the Control decks due to just running out of power and card advantage. Pretty much the basis of the deck:

Steam Augury , Guttersnipe , Young Pyromancer , Boros Charm , Spellheart Chimera (Which gets pumped by Augury) OR Cyclops, Mizzium Skin And pretty much burn and counter magic to protect your creatures and feed your snipe and pyromancer, also Skullcrack against MBD and any control with Sphinx's Revelation

Also its pretty sweet to give your flying trample Chimera double strike for a game win one hit TKO. Just saying.

most expensive thing about the deck is the lands.if you are interested I will gladly whip you up a deck list on here.

I understand the frustration of money issues and not being able to keep up with top decks. I've had to break the bank on my UW control when i first started it.
