So dragons maze it dropping soon. I feel like they didnt wait long after gatecrash came out. I hear they might be making a red/blue planeswalker, and Ral Zareck is being brought back, and there will be 10 guilds, and no basic lands. I know Im pretty excited. Do you think there will be any new mechanics with this set? What do you guys think the strongest guild will be? Anyone know anything about this mythic rare nonbasic land ive been hearing about? What have you heard about the new set.

The mythic non-basic land will be colour-less and say:

Implicit Maze of Mizzet

Legendary Land - Gate (Mythic)

Tap: Add 1 to your mana pool.

3, Tap: Search your library for a Gate card and put it onto the battlefield, then shuffle your library. Return Implicit Maze of Mizzet to its owner's hand. At the beginning of the end step, if you control ten or more Gates, you win the game

One thing that I'm hoping for is another cycle of Legendary creatures for each guild, sort of an echo of the "guild champion" Legendaries from the original Ravnica block. Mostly because I really want a Teysa 2.0 because the Ravnica novels make Teysa out to be quite awesome. It would also be pretty cool and third-act appropriate if despite all the scorn thrown upon her by Aurelia, Feather returned to fight for the Legion once more.

I cant remember where or when, but a while back an article on Daily mtg strongly hinted at a guild champion cycle.

Wow.... that land sounds... unusable... powerful...?? I don't know which.


4th turn before you can get any use out of it other than 1 colorless mana.

If your first 3 lands were gates, then you sill have to survive 6+ more turns for this win-con to work... but if they were gates, they came into play tapped... so you've essentially been behind a turn or 2 from the start.

Other gates come into play tapped, so the 'mana acceleration' is greatly reduced in quality.

It's Legendary, so it can't be effectively copied by card:Thespian's Stage


Granted, it has some redeeming qualities.

Gatecreeper Vine can search for it.

If returning it to your hand is not a part of the cost, but rather a part of the ability then Greenside Watcher can untap it and you can re-activate it... allowing you to use it twice (or more) in one turn.

Skarrg Guildmage could turn it into a creature, allowing card:Illusionist's Bracers to be equipped... causing it to be copied when activated.... expensive though, as it would take 3 to activate the guildmage, 3 to equip the bracers, and 3 to activate the land... 9 mana.... if you had that in gates (plus the land itself), you wouldn't need the ability, you've already go 10 gates.

With Greenside Watcher , card:Illusionist's Bracers, and a Galvanic Alchemist , you can get unlimited mana, and unlimited untapping of gates.... thus this could be a quick win. (Win on upkeep of turn 5 with an "ultimate' hand.)

The mythic land is probably too slow for standard, and better for ramping up in EDH. however, in standard it could possibly be put into decks to ramp up to five or six mana. But then again, who runs 10 gates in a deck..

Even in EDH, you can only have one of each gate.... that's 11 total if you count the Mythic itself... and then you can only have all those if you are using a 5 color commander.

This might make it okay for mana-fixing, but losing even 2 land prevents the win-com from being possible.

I'm always hesitant to call effects like this 'Ramp', as you still only get 1 land per turn. All it does is assure you get your land drop each turn... but at the cost of tapping 4 land, so it's uses more mana than it gets for at least 4 turns.

They are supposedly re-doing the champions. So each guild should have one. And I heard (not sure if its real) but of a mechanic called Gatewalk? lol. like i said, speculations not sure if its legit.

I don't know if that is what the card text would be, but the text just seems off and not right. The first part is all "your/you" then the second part is "its owner's" and the third part jumps back to "your/you" This doesn't feel real to me.

It jumps between owner and you/your because cards like Zealous Conscripts could take control of the permanent, use the ability, then it would go to the owner's hand.

@ Rayenous, very insightful. The gates are so slow, it seems silly to make a win condition around them, and slow, at least in standard with how fast people are making their decks now. I doubt it will become too popular in standard deck.

There is the possibility of effects that allow gates to enter the battlefield untapped.... or other things that may speed this up, such as being able to play an additional land each turn, so long as they are both lands.

I doubt that these will occur, as methods of breaking these would likely be found fairly quickly.

Other, more power effect, that occur when you control a gate could make it more feasible as well. Crackling Perimeter or Way of the Thief have proven to be fairly inefficient, as well as too few. More powerful options could make playing with gates feasible... again, they would have to make sure it's not too easily broken.

A Vanilla 4/4 for 4 mana... not really a good reason for using such slow slow mana.

I think that a g/w and r/u planes walker would be nice. If there is a maze card, I hope it is a take on other maze cards. Like a functional reprint of Maze of Ith

I'm hoping for a new U/B planeswalker, there is currently only 1 in existence (unless you count Nicol Bolas, but you also need R for him)

Actually, I'd been away from the game for a bit, and Gatecrash crept up on me, so I didn't notice... on the subject of Dragon's Maze.. what official announcements have there been? any in regards to release? and how much time is there usually between spoilers/sneak-peeks and actual releases? trying to work out when we might be due for some official peeks...

I know MTG Salvation has a list of all the released information on DGM, Alonzo. The Prerelease is scheduled for April 26-28.

how is DGM coming up fast when it was prescheduled at least 1 year in advance....that's what I want to know XD. It has also been long know that DGM is a combination of RTR and GTC. Only thing new going into the set is amazing cards.

AS for hopig what will be in it...Gruul agro. It needs more 4 and under drops with all the fixings. Boros can't be the only agro clan up in this place!
