Dude... UB control is still a thing.

Standard forum

For real. I am pumped that I can still top an FNM with the deck (standard) despite everyone telling me that it sucks... Lol.

I also got "play of the night".

Cauterizer. is the deck if you want to see how that play went down.

I am just excited, I have not played in a bit and I feel like I "still got it".

UB is still a thing, yes. Ultimate Price and Anticipate helped things a bit. Also, this should be in the standard forum, no?

Maybe it should be in the standard forum, but it says no deck lists, which I put it in the post. sorry about that.

and also, Self-Inflicted Wound and Encase in Ice are the truth!

Sounds like your metaing the shit out of your lgs

Whoever says ub control sucks should be slapped :)

VampireArmy, nah I wasn't really meta-ing anything. I looked at the last big SCG tournament, (since I have not played standard for the last 6 months), and saw that playing green was the big thing. looked at my binder, realized that I have everything for UB control, and threw it together the night before and tested against RG aggro and against Abzan aggro. I put my SB together accordingly. For good measure, I slammed 2 copies of Grindclock to deal with a control mirror, (just in case). the other control player did not.

But I agree that whoever said UB sucks should be slapped. Luckily, he got slapped with counters and spot removal all night long from me in the top 4. He played RG aggro.

Lol, I started playing Pokemon because of my kids, and I have been screwing with EDH. So I have lost touch with Modern, Legacy and Standard.

EDH is a good one but pokemon. Wow. Haven't played that since about 2006 haha

My son got into the cards... and he pulls crazy stuff. One of the LGS's does a ton of Pokemon, so being a natural Spike in TCG's, I put together a Pokemon deck and rolled in and crushed the shit out of everyone. I ended up getting a box of Pokemon boosters and let my son open them... he was all kinds of pumped.

Mm that might have came off as condescending. I meant it more as surprise

Nah man, you're good. No worries.

I haven't seen anyone doubting U/B and it's widely considered one of the top decks right now. Pro Tour results only cement that.

Congrats on winning a FNM? I thought you'd been playing for a while.

Yeah, I have been playing for a long time. Winning still feels good though. Especially since I have not played or even looked at standard or anything mtg related in five months. I missed the entire standard with fate reforged. The funny thing was before the pro tour, everyone at my LGS was saying UB sucked big time. All I did was show them before the pro tour results came up that it's still too gnarly for most folks.

I am probably going to stick with this deck for the rest of standard, though.

Well welcome back boss, sounds like you'll be cleaning up at your LGS. Standard is pretty diverse and fun right now.

Thanks man. Yeah, I wouldn't call it cleaning house... More like just saying "nope". A lot.

I feel like the word "sucks" can sometimes mean "old news" in the Magic community. People tend to think that a new set will cause the meta to change more than it really does in the end.

But even with that aside, people just want to see new things succeed and will talk shit about older decks just because it's easy to hate on the favorite that's been there and done that. Kind of like hating on the Lakers (back when they didn't actually suck).

At the end of the day, there was no way that DTK was going to knock U /B off of its tier 1 perch. It's the best true control scheme in Standard, and now it has Ultimate Price, Anticipate, and perhaps even Silumgar's Scorn. Predicting its demise was honestly kind of ridiculous, if indeed the people at your LGS were genuine about that opinion.

Yeah I think they were serious. Lol. Some opponents were a little shocked. Self-Inflicted Wound was my hate card of choice. It did some work!
