Elspeth Duel Deck Card Allowed In Standard?
Standard forum

I am fairly new to the game so excuse me for this question if it is silly or obvious. I Just saw the new Duel Deck with her and look forward to when it comes out. But her "Set Logo" looks different from Theros or Khan logos we are so used to seeing in Standard now. If we get that Deck can we use her in standard?
Also, when Theros ends up rotating out of Standard, the Elspeth from Theros will be gone. But will the Elspeth from the Duel Deck still be allowed in Standard since it technically came out during the Fate Reforged era?

So anycard in that Duel deck that is already legal in standard will be legal. So the alternate printings are still legal. The duel decks arent part of rotation so when elspeth from theros rotates out, you cant use the duel deck version. does that make sense?

Any card that has been printed in a Standard-legal set is standard legal. So I can play the Urza's Saga version of Arc Lightning, or the Avacyn Restored version of Crippling Chill. Some people who had Onslaught fetchlands like to show those off instead of playing the KTK ones. Bottom line is, if it was printed in a Standard legal set, it doesn't matter which printing you're using.

A better rule of thumb: If a card is legal in a format, all card printings with the same name are legal in that format.
Pyrotechnics was printed in FRF. So that means your Legends copy, your 8th edition copy, etc. are all legal in standard.

I gotcha. Yes that makes sense. I am starting a deck with her but it may not be worth it since her and all these Theros cards I like will be rotating out next. Decisions to make...lol

julianjmoss, you got the right idea.
Since I currently know no decklists, I can only refer to Kiora and Elspeth, but these will rotate out in September when whatever comes after Magic Origins becomes legal in September. All other cards will rotate out of Standard once their respective original prints rotate out.

Yes you can. As long as she's in a standard legal set you can use any printing of her. Even if she's printed in a non-standard legal set.
For example if Birds of Paradise was legal in Khans then you could use ANY printing of Birds of Paradise - alpha, beta, revised, third edition, 7th, 8th etc.

SapphireARC - saying now that you don't want to build something because Theros rotates out is not a reasonable though. It rotates out in eight (!!) months. You can still win any given Game Day for, Dragons of Tarkir as well as Magic Origins using these cards, along with the respective PPTQ, PTQ and PT (okay the PT is probably very hypothetical).

Oh wow, I got my math very wrong then. I gotta figure out how rotation works it seems. Thanks for pointing that out.

SapphireARC, look at these:
What's in Standard is a simplified, but pretty decent resource.
This blog entry is also pretty good to figure out stuff.

don't get too attached though, Standard/block rotation is about to change..!

Any card from Duel Deck is legal in any format where their original prints are still legal. So, effectively: Both Planeswalkers from the Duel Deck will be Legal in Standard until Theros rotates out.
