Fetches
Standard forum

Can we all just sit and dwell for a minute on just how much Standard is going to change once fetches rotate out?
Also follow up question - do you think this will hurt, improve, or do nothing to the playability of the tango lands in Standard?
You think Jace's price might be hurt a bit with the limitation of four color decks? That will make him less playable to a degree as he won't have near as much flexibility as he used to.

Hahahaha! Haha! Ha! ....Ha...
No.
Jace is going to still be good with Madness in the format. He won't flip as early as he used to, so he'll get more mileage as a looter. He might drop some, but he'll still be north of $50 unless something drastic happens.

Anything with 3 or 4 colors will be slowed down tremendously, to the point where they may no longer be playable. Standard will shift to primarily 2 color decks, which have more use for basic lands, which will increase the playability of tango lands.

The format will definitely slow down, as the amount of dual lands in a deck will diminish the number of basics, and thus reducing the chance of them entering untapped

Yeah I guess I forgot about Madness for half a second, but he has to go down sometime soon.
ryanjoha - I'm not totally sure I follow you.

The last time I used fetches was when DTK dropped.
It's been pain and battle lands all the way, for me. The new creature lands have been getting a workout in my builds, too.
I've been doing fine playing Mardu etc. without fetches. If I had gone for a fourth colour I would have been forced to use them, of course.
I would expect to still see three colour decks, but with only a splash of a third colour.
I think the expectation that things will slow down might not be correct. My fetchless builds are very aggro.

The tango lands require two basics to be on the field to enter untapped, so if you jam in too many tangos, that limits the number of basics you can have. There has to be that balance of basic to tango ratio

I don't think the format itself will slow down. The format will remain at roughly the same speed, but decks that have 3 or 4 colors will find themselves too slow without the fetches. Those decks will try using as many dual lands as possible, which will limit the number of basics and make the tango lands unlikely to be untapped.
I think more people would opt to go to 2 color decks to maintain their speed, use less dual lands overall and more basic lands, which would increase the usefulness of the tango lands.

Jace is still a Mythic, and still sees play in other formats. - He's not dropping much, if at all, in price.
The playability of certain 2-color decks will actually go UP due to fetches rotating. - For example, right now is virtually unplayable. This is largely due to simply being out-classed by 3-4 color decks with more versatility and none of the downside normally associated with poor mana bases.
Tango lands will still be played... what other choices do your have (I guess we still have spoilers to come)?
There will also be a slight increase in Pain land usage, which may also lead to an increase in cards. - Thought-Knot Seer's for everyone!

Tango lands will get better, with the other 5 uncommon dual lands coming in SOI.

With Delirium in play and a constant threat in decks that will use it; expect to see Evolving Wilds alot more.
March 13, 2016 12:21 p.m.
I expect that Jace will probably suffer half price lost during the first few weeks once SOI drops. Then he will slowly go back up in price once people figure out a deck that he can fit into.
Seriously; the Standard Meta is going to go crazy once SOI hits due to the fact that every pro deck will be crippled. So all the tier 2 decks in this Meta will finally get a chance to shine.
So we'll be able to have BG Elves, WG Megamorph, WG Token Counters, BW Vampires, Atarka Midrange. most Eldrazi decks... etc.

I disagree that Evolving Wilds will get more play.
There are a lot of sac abilities among the new Creatures.

The Battle lands will still be played, they're dual lands that can enter untapped after all. However the big change is that we won't have any of the 4 color decks after rotation. Jeskai Black and Mardu Green are going to be severely hurt once we rotate.
Also decks will probably go up to the 4-of of their particular dual land if they're 2-color.
