im looking for as many standard viable-ish situations where Trait Doctoring can be used so far I got 2
1.use Trait Doctoring on Chained to the Rocks to change its enchant mountain to enchant something else so it falls off
2.use Trait Doctoring on one of blood barons protection so you may either Glare of Heresy or Dark Betrayal or any black or white removal you couldn't use otherwise respectively (this use can be said the same for Master of Waves 's pro red too)
No you can't. Brave the Elements isn't a permanent. The 2 you mentioned were the only 2 I've ever thought of, but I haven't thought that hard.

Fetch any land with Karametra
Use Corrupt in a mono blue deck
Sac 2 forests with Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord
Any landwalk on Merfolk Spy
Exile anything with Glare of Heresy
Counter anything with Gainsay (May as well use Cancel at that point)
Make the Theros gods a creature in any deck (Change their devotion clause)
That's about all that I could think of at the moment.

Wow, derp. Didn't notice the permanent clause on Trait doctoring. That makes it soooo much worse...

@InconspicuousPotato: You can't even do that. Trait Doctoring is a sorcery, and it only affects permanents. Also, pink is not a valid color choice.
Trait Doctoring is just a garbage card.

The worst part is the Cipher. I loved Cipher, and it was easily my favourite mechanic from GTC. I was hoping for something really cool in DGM, and we got Trait Doctoring ... Why?!

Oops... And I know pink isn't a valid color choice, it was joke.

It trigger heroic whenever the ciphered creature deals combat damage, that's the best use i think for it.

I run Trait Doctoring in an izzet standard heroic deck... it triggers heroic and Young Pyromancer . Outsde of that context it's practically useless, unless you're shutting down gods, or just to mess with some heads decicide it's a good idea to make the tokens off of Akroan Crusader and Young Pyromancer an assortment of colours

You can also use it to change any planeswalkers ability that have colors or land in their abilities. For example Liliana of the Dark Realms could search for any land. Or Garruk, Caller of Beasts could put any color creature into play. But yeah those are things I would only recommend doing at the kitchen table.

Doesn't work with glare of heresy. Is actually quite good for fogging a god, problem is cipher triggers on your turn

And it can't be cast on their turn either, on second thoughts it's very shite

Actually the word swamps and even black mana symbols are not color words on a permanent. Color words refer to the five colors in magic red, green, blue ,black and white anything else is not a color word. So what was said about Lilliana isn't true. here is an example of how trait doctoring works: I am R/U red/blue and have several 2/2 red permanents and don't wanna attack because i'm facing Master of Waves and a slew of 2/1 elementals, I have a Lightning Strike but can't target master of waves because he is protection from red, I draw Trait Doctoring and cast it targeting master of waves and changing his protection from red to white till end of turn then cast lightning strike on him and he dies and so do his elementals he was keeping alive. That is an example of a color word change.

Ok my bad yes you can change land types as stated on the card but they arent color words.

Land type words aren't color words, however, trait doctoring can alter both.
It can alter the color word "Red" in "Protection from red", as can it alter the word "Plains" in "Search your library for a plains card"

Trait Doctoring is more powerful than it appears at first sight, you can also use Nivmagus Elemental after ciphering it onto something with unblockable. it can change the color of lands, it lets gods become creatures in dual colored decks, it kills protection, if can also take advantage of things like Liliana of the Dark Realms emblem and run wild with that in dual colored deck, it just requires a good johnny player to take advantage of it.

It doesn't take a good Johnny player to take advantage of it... because a GOOD Johnny player wouldn't be bothered with it.

also you can Quicken Trait Doctoring in response to Gray Merchant of Asphodel to change its devotion to black to devotion to red so nothing happens
January 20, 2014 10:51 a.m.
I feel like none of these "combos" are actually combos. Its like working much harder to get a smaller effect. For example: You could exile better things with Nivmagus Elemental without needing to first get damage through, and he could be bigger. Why would you want Liliana of the Dark Realms in a Dual colour deck? She clearly works well with black to fetch swamps. Rather than play a second card to make your Planeswalker better, why not just use a good Planeswalker and have a reliable manabase? The same applies to Garruk.
Anger of the Gods also deals with Master of Waves in red, and is more likely to give you a 2 for 1, rather than 2 for 1ing yourself. Why not use one the beneficial heroic enablers, rather than one which does literally nothing else? All of these things could be done far more easily, with far less card advantage being given away. Its just a terrible card...

Lol I looked at the title, thought "I bet this is about trait doctoring." Sure enough... You could change an opponents Brave the Elements to affect pink creatures instead of white creatures.
