Nowadays there is a lot of aggro deck running around in standard and why not, it's fast, efficient and it limits your opponents choices on what to do on a turn such as play a removal spell on a useless token but the token is a 4/3 knight which just needs to die... hope ya'll catch my drift.
Saffron olive from MTGGoldfish posted a video clip which he played the card Firesong and Sunspeaker and played a Star of Extinction from which his life total went from 17 to 137...
sure he had all the mana in the world with a flipped Azor's Gateway Flip and this was on Magic arena but that got me thinking, casting Star of Extinction is a lot of mana but what if you played a Sweltering Suns for and gained a bunch of life, almost like you take Lightning Strike and turn it into a Lightning Helix?
what do you think? Firesong and Sunspeaker still dies to Vraska's Contempt and Fumigate but can it work in a control shell to gain life?

MegaMetagross it is all a matter of playstyle. There are people who dont enjoy playing aggro, linear decks that win or lose fast and dont interact that much with the opponent. Each person has his own preferred playstyle.

I've playtested Firesong in my deck Vance's Sun Song against a few of the top decks. It plays fairly well, and its 6 toughness is too much for some decks (Abrade + Magma Spray won't cut it). But most decks have some way of getting rid of it. Like Ixalan's Binding... or any black spell.
So your deck has to have ways of winning without Firesong. My deck added in Approach of the Second Sun and Fight with Fire, which work really well.
Interesting about Star of Extinction... don't know how I never thought of that. Amazing card with Firesong!!

i'm brewing a deck right now with Firesong and Sunspeaker as the value 6 drop did you know that with The First Eruption you can if you've played The First Eruption on turn 3 ramp from 4 mana to 6 mana thanks to the saga and then you have on turn 4 the mana to cast Firesong and Sunspeaker.
Board the Weatherlight seems like a good card filtering spell, search for your best historic card such as Jaya's Immolating Inferno and if you have Firesong and Sunspeaker deal 3 to any target.
Shivan Fire might be interesting, 2 dmg for and 4 dmg for it's nice that it can scale with the late game :) then if you add on lifelink then it seems even more appealing :3

why aim to gain life "after" turn 7 when you could aim to win "before" turn 7? seems a no brainer to me. gain life vs win, after T7 vs before T7.
