Flame Slash vs Mizzium Mortars

Standard forum

Assuming both were in standard and you wanted they were in your colors, which would you run? Flame Slash or Mizzium Mortars ?

I personally would choose Flame Slash , as the overload seems too much mana to be dependable on. But what do you think?

Flame Slash is way better

Well that depends. Are they both in Standard during the RTR period, or the RotE period? If it's the RTR period, definitely Flame Slash . If it's the RotE period, I'd say Mizzium Mortars for the fact that RotE and SoM were Standard at the same time, aka Koth of the Hammer .

Generally when people refer to "standard" they refer to the current standard.

Well you never know, it could go either way. What I brought up was a completely valid point.

All comes down to the deck.

If I'm an aggro deck, Flame Slash . If I believe my deck has a reasonable chance to get to overload, Mizzium Mortars . An overloaded Mizzium Mortars can win you games that Flame Slash never could, so it's worth the slight hit to efficiency, but if my deck doesn't ever want to see 6 mana on the table, and I've probably lost if it's gone that long any ways, the ability to remove a big creature and still develop the board is quite invaluable.
