FNM Vampire Help Please!!

Standard forum

Hey guys. I'm brand new to "paper-magic" and I just built this competitive Vampire deck and I need some help for FNM and other standard format tournaments!! My main strategy for this deck is Kill Stuff and make big buff bad Vampires. I could use any advice, any advice for a new player starting a new deck. The deck is below:

WeDoItForVishKal!

Once again the help I'm looking for is from any experienced, well playing, winning magic player to help this deck out. Any suggestions and reasons on why to run a certain card would be awesome!! Thanks!!

P.S. - Sorry for spamming the forums, but I really need help because I go to play in 5 hours, also, Innistrad Vampires rotate out in October. )=

Thanks man, yeah thanks for the ideas. I'm still trying to brew some up lol. That "reanimate" decks are kicking my ass, everytime I kill something they just bring it back to life );

Evolving Wilds helps Vampire Nocturnus a lot. Rakdos's Return under performed for me.

Hmm. Okay, yeah I'm still brand new, so I'm kind of just testing all of the cards I can out. Nocturnus has kicked lots of ass for me, but so has Bloodline Keeper lol. Olivia is my funnest card I love playing, but I also thought about cutting her too.

Also, I need to know how many lands I should be playing. Take into consideration Mutilate, Rakdos's Return, and Olivia's expensive abilities. Also for evolving wilds, what basic lands do I take out?

drop 2x swamps for 2x Evolving Wilds

Id cut down on the Rakdos's Return and Mutilate and add Stromkirk Noble s and up your mountains. id cut down to 2x Vampire Nocturnus too so you don't have to rely so much on top decking black.

looks good to me, how does it fare against the popular net decks?

I'd definitely trade out Blood Artist for Rakish Heir

i wouldn't do that. Blood Artist is more useful than Rakish Heir and Heir will only slow down Vampire Nocturnus because hes red.

I've got that a lot actually, people I have been playing against says I should cut down on Returns and Mutilates and add Nobles. The only problem I have with that is that Returns, like hands down have won me games before. I can usually handle most creatures with my first striking vamps (if captain is on the board) but what kills me is when people have lots of cards in their hands at all times (sphnix something something gain life draw cards) So if they tap out with a restro angle or thragtust thats fine for me because I know I can deal with it and than at that time usually return them for 4-5 cards which usually means I win because I usally have a good amount of vamps on the field. I'm scared to run the noble because 1.) hes only good against human decks. 2.) I have to top deck a lot due to no draw cards and I top deck him turn 10 I cry myself to sleep.

As far as the noble goes, I think I will side board him over Tribuite To Hunger, just in case human aggro is getting frisky with it.

Stromkirk Noble is good against more than humans. He is good in general but damn near unstoppable against humans. The fact that you run Vampire Nocturnus is where I could see you not wanting to run him. Shadow Alley Denizen would be more up you a alley...pun intended. Any vampire one drop is fun, shes mono black so she works with Nocturnus, and he ability will help in all portions of the game. one drops are a wonderful thing.

If your set up with Rakdos's Return and Mutilate is working for you than go for it. Return just underperformed for me. Its more of a midrange card considering you'll want the high X cost most of the time. Usually with vampires the closer you can get to aggro the better. Olivia Voldaren being your biggest control asset.

that's why I would also kick nocturnus for imposter.

Yeah if I decide to go heavy aggro I'm going to put in Shadow Alley Denizen and I will probably take out my Nocturnus' and my Mutilates and Returns and load up with Stromkirk Noble .

I kind of like the midrange deck I have right now, because late game I usually have a bunch of buffed up vamps with first strike, and I usually hit the return for 3 ish. As long as I can get rid of 2-3 cards with return I'm happy.

thats the problem. the deck itself is set up as an aggro deck right now. You mana cost for creatures cuts off at 4, which if i had to say is pretty aggro, and regardless as to whether you want to be aggro or not, Shadow Alley Denizen will help you. Just imagine what you could give intimidate...Vampire Nocturnus himself, a Stromkirk Noble that will then get in for damage and get pumped, a pumped lifelink Vampire Nighthawk . Not tomention your buff from Stromkirk Captain making her at least a 3/3 firststrike that gives things intimidate, assuming you only have one captain and Bloodline Keeper  Flip isnt transformed yet. She makes it harder to avoid damage. If you deside to go with Nocturnus, definetly add Stromkirk Noble , if not its kind of a toss up whether or not you should. I ran 4x of the nobles back when my vamp deck had 2x Nocturnus.

i guess my point is whether you realize it or not, your going to need to focus more on the early game beat down in order to win with this. Vampires just don't have a lot of late game mojo to hang with the meta right now. Supreme Verdict , Thragtusk , Sphinx's Revelation and all that other shit is a nightmare for vampires.

I don't have an issue with the Mutilate in your deck besides the fact that I think you should drop to 2x instead of 3. And if you really like Rakdos's Return in your deck than same goes for that. 3x is a little much.

Yeah I took your advice and went heavy aggro lol, I even bought some Falkenrath Aristocrat . Take a look now and tell me what you think.
