Golgari mill

So, is it a lousy idea to include watery grave or drowned catacomb in my golgari deck in order to activate Nephalia drownyard to provide a source of "junk" for my shamans to feast on?

Also Drown in Filth or Jarad's Orders . They are among my favorite Golgari cards at the moment. Also Splinterfright for continuous self-mill. But yes, Darkness1835 is correct, no reason to splash blue just for that. Golgari has plenty of graveyard fill on its own.

Unless you're aiming to load up your opponent's graveyard to feed the Deathrite Shaman s so you don't have to mill yourself, in which case I would recommend going for something that doesn't require splashing just a bit of color. Sands of Delirium , perhaps, or Undercity Informer (if you've got the creatures to sac).

OK, two points:
Not wanting to splash a color is not an excuse for running jank like Sands of Delirium and Jarad's Orders . Nephalia Drownyard is a land, so it does not take up spell slots, it taps for mana, and can be used at instant speed.
HOWEVER, just providing fuel for Deathrite Shaman is not a good enough reason to make your mana worse with colorless lands. If you have other graveyard interaction (Snapcaster Mage , Forbidden Alchemy ), then fine.

Ok, call me curious, detentionsphere. Why do you think Sands of Delirium is jank?

I both agree and disagree with almost everything said by everyone in this thread....
In other words, I would need to see the deck to have any idea what would or would not be a good idea for the deck.
Splashing Blue just for self mill in a Golgari deck is not likely to be the right method... however, if you have other reasons to use Blue, it may be a consideration. Far / Away comes to mind.... Give / Take , not so much, unless you're scavenging, and/or using Corpsejack Menace .
Why people view Jarad's Orders as "jank", I'm not sure... yes there are better cards for getting "cards" into the grave, but this one lets you get any two creatures from your deck, and put them exactly where you want them. - If you're deck is built right, this can setup a win-con.

I'm not wondering about Jarad's Orders , though. I can see why people love or hate it. I'm curious about the stated opinion of Sands of Delirium , especially since "jank" can still be subjective depending on the deck. I personally think the Sands are a decent milling card, given the fact that it can fit in any color deck and can do as little as one or as many as you have available mana. And it has the same "one card for one mana" ratio as Nephalia Drownyard , and is also instant-speed (it just doesn't produce any mana and doesn't drop as a land, but depending on the deck, you may not want the Drownyard since you need black and blue to run its mill effect).

My main idea was to mill my opponent to provide Shamans with targets, not myself. I don;t like the Junk self mill builds, I want to mill them to take away options and hopefully remove their answers to my attacks.

The two cards I suggested should be Standard-legal and work with Golgari colors. There are a few others, but I thought those two most viable for milling your opponents rather than yourself.

The problem with mill as a mechanic is that, just like burn, it is inherently card disadvantage. The only times when a mill card can be good are either when the mill itself provides cards (Mulch , Grisly Salvage ), or when the mill does not cost you a card (Nephalia Drownyard ). Sands is also very mana-hungry.

There are better cards in color for such a purpose, ie Mulch or Grisly Salvage . No need to splash blue for just that.
