Hmmm I was tweaking my sideboard the other day and I got to thinking about Dimir Charm .

The "removal mode" of this card seems to be EXCELLENT vs monoblue as the only creature they have with power > 2 is Thassa, God of the Sea and she can be kept under control by taking out the rest of the devotion.

Against monoblack they have Mutavault , early Pack Rat s, Nightveil Specter , AND Gray Merchant of Asphodel that can be taking care of with the removal mode. Add in the fact that you can counter a Thoughtseize or Duress from them and it just gained usefullness. In long games against either matchup, you can fate seal an opponent to keep them from top decking an answer, or use it to dig for one of your win cons. Seems good in most decks that are already running U/B like Esper, Grixis, BUG

Toughts?

Considering the meta, only Soldier of the Pantheon is a problem (not speaking on the g/w stuff, that's too large normally). Why not mainboard it, all the reasons you state are good in the majority of matchups.

your probably not going to be able to counter a thoughtseize or durress, it will be too early usually. But dimir charm is certainly a usable card.

Only if they use it turn one. If not, I will be able to stop them (if I want to) anytime from turn 2 on. It's basically a "protection" spell for one of my win cons against monoblack with the extra benefit of being a removal spell vs a lot of their win cons.

I run Thoughtseize as well, so it can go both ways. If they choose to make me discard Dimir Charm on turn 1 that leaves my draw spells, counterspells, and win cons alone with them taking 2 to the dome for their trouble. If they choose something else instead, then the only "safe" card they can use is Pack Rat on turn 5 (IF I don't have a counterspell by then or another removal spell to go along with it) and Desecration Demon which I have 10-14 other spells to deal with that guy.

The card has A LOT of uses vs both of these decks and the reward is even greater if you get to use it as it is so versatile.

A lot of attention has been brought back to this card since Brian Braun Duin put it in his esper midrange deck not to long ago. It's a great card, and the fnm promo looks cool too

It's funny you mention that notamardybum as I have collected a couple of those promo cards and intend to use them!

I didn't know about BBD's Esper Midrange deck sideboard, but it stands to reason that a good card will be found eventually by a pro!

Ultimate Price takes care of all of them except the Nightveil Specter , which can easily be taken care of with other removal.

@acbooster: Against monoblack it is good, however monoblue uses Frostburn Weird , Nightveil Specter , and Judge's Familiar all of which are multicolored. so 1/2 the time it will be a dead card. Not to mention it can't hit Mutavault and I've been "pecked to death" by those !#%%! things too many times now after I've stabilized :)
