Gruul War Chant

I was thinking, Gruul War Chant could do damage in midrange decks. Why doesn't it see any love? I know it's not ridiculously good, but throw down a Hellrider and bam.

If I had to guess... Its too slow for aggro (just play the Hellrider T4. Usually that's game), and midrange just doesn't care about a weak +1/+0 buff. The opponents stuff just shouldn't be there because of removal, or should die if it blocks. Turn 4 in midrange decks is important for putting down something that drastically impacts your board state, and the War Chant doesn't do diddly in that case.

This is the way I see it, having played a Boros (mostly red) deck that would have been ok with either. Gruul War Chant gives your creatures evasion and isn't a creature so its harder to kill. Hellrider on the other hand is a creature which means he will poke for himself and is a 3/3 haste. Hellrider also lets you send the poking at a 'Walker and still have the creatures hit the player. The ability to take the game back after a wrath where the War Chant would do nothing is the most important factor I think although its close.

i think for a deck with Gruul War Chant should be a low CMC like swarm attacking most possible, then on T4 drop Gruul War Chant and do the final blow with it, at least thats the way i see it, lots of 1 drop and 2 drops like Burning-Tree Emissary and a lot of 2 drops to play with her to

If you run that in a ramp deck you will be able to pull off some terrible things with it. Like Ruric was saying swarm decks prosper from it more than anything. If you're playing modern you can use all kinds of things ranging from Innistrad vampires, tokens, or dragons and pretty much end the game or come very close to it. Run it in Jund, Naya, or a token popper deck for absolute evil.

I see Gruul War Chant having potential with something like Young Pyromancer where if it is done right, a player can populate like mad then swarm the opponent.

this is an example of a standard deck with Gruul War Chant

Grull singing a War Chant out loud

having 4 or 5 creatures in play and you opponent in lest then 10 LP you play Gruul War Chant and even if your opponent has few blockers you should kill him/her with this

I play it as a one of in my gruul aggro deck and it can help your late games and help you stabilize after a board wipe but putting anymore then two in could hurt you
