Why is this deck good all of the sudden? Its been around for awhile but never really has been good, so why now, when the meta is full of Reflector Mage is it good all of the sudden? It seems pretty terrible compared to what other decks are doing.
I love that with bout 2 months til rotation, Standard isnt solved. Wish there was still an "extended" format, gonna miss Dig...

This makes me smile as I was commenting to a friend two weeks ago who took Hardened Scales to Houston that it could be the resurgent deck for the event.

Because with Nissa, Voice of Zendikar, support mechanics, and Servant of the Scale in standard along with all the counter buffing green creatures in KTK there are some pretty brutal interactions.
Turn 1: Forest, Hardened Scales
Turn 2: Forest, tap 2 Forests and play Baloth Pup
Turn 3: Forest, tap 1 Forest and play Servant of the Scale, attack with Baloth Pup and then tap 2 Forests to cast Shoulder to Shoulder on both your creatures. You now have a 5/3 creature with trample and a 4/4 creature that will give another creature +5/+5 if it dies. On turn 3. I realize that this is a very conditional scenario, but it just enables cheap shenanigans. Endless One and Hangarback Walker are much more mana efficient from an early game standpoint, not to mention the fact that it enables Hangarback Walker in a huge way. Hell, Managorger Hydra gets 4 counters if you cast a support spell on it with Hardened Scales out. The sad part is that the deck dies this spring.

Nissa, Voice of Zendikar is really what is pushing them over the top. Her -2 is just bonkers with Hardened Scales out. Reflector Mage can take out there biggest threat for a turn or two. It often just isn't enough.
