Has anybody seen a deck with jarad and trostani

I've always wanted to combo the two in a deck. essentially it would be a sac deck but it would be draining life and gaining if trostani was on the field. other cards I was thinking of putting in Sanguine Bond , Desecration Demon , Deadbridge Goliath , Dreg Mangler . Appreciate any feedback

It's nice idea but going as far with Desecration Demon and Deadbridge Goliath to add to the four drop group with Trostani and Jarad may put you in jeopardy if you play it in standard seeing then that your hand would consist of four drops with the odds in that favor and have your hand stacking up as your waiting to play. I would focus else where like Loxodon Smiter and other cards at different cmc to help your hands odds and smooth out the play. If your deck can manage having all four(or five, one duplicate) of those four drops in your opening hand and still play them with easy I am all for in seeing this. But i would advise not to and stick with the original idea with Trostani and Jarad

Epochalyptik standard if possible I guess...I have 2 trostani and 4 jarads just chillen and I feel bad for neglecting them lol. WovenNebula are you saying have trostani and jarad as the only four drops in the deck? Jp3ngu1nb0y I like the way you think =]..what about Debt to the Deathless ?

Im just saying, use what works best for your deck without compromising its integrity. So maybe 6 four drops. Unless your going the route of like Jund midrange and are using heavy creature destruction until your deck is ready to go.

how about 4 4drops and 3 5drops?

That would be perfect. The scale of what would be good be for exmaple: 8 (1drops), 6 (2 drops) and so on or in your case 7(1drops),6(2 drops),5(3drops)4(4drops),3(5drops) and so on. If you do not scale that way, I would suggest early defense like how Jund works or other ways, using creature removal and other such means to defend yourself to set yourself up for success.

you have any suggestions for one and three drops?

I was thinking

3x Voice of Resurgence 3x Scavenging Ooze

2x Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord 2x Trostani, Selesnya's Voice

2x Blood Baron of Vizkopa 1x Sanguine Bond

Scavenging Ooze wouldn't mesh so with Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord , seeing that in some instances in order to make him grow you have to target your graveyard. Voice of Resurgence , Blood Baron of Vizkopa , and Sanguine Bond synergize well, and well with Trostani. So maybe take out Jarad for what you wanted before with Desecration Demon . Since Voice will deter blue and moves on your turn, forcing them to play on their turn only, and with Desecration Demon he could help slow them down if they have a bit of creatures. I would still recommend Loxodon Smiter for one of your three drop spots besides what else we have talked about here. Maybe 2 Angelic Accord with the lifegain theme here, but thats up to you.

So are you saying jarads not going to fit if scavengings in the deck but if its not it will? or are you saying just to take him out all together? how do you feel about Centaur Healer or Wayfaring Temple ?

WovenNebula says... #12

Yeah either Jarad or the ooze not both. Centaur Healer would work. Wayfaring you would have to focus on tokens too much to make him work really well, so I would leave wayfaring out.

alright so I'll take ooze out then..since the whole point was to use jarad and trostani...since that free's up a 2 drop slot what should go in the place High Priest of Penance or Call of the Conclave /Kalonian Tusker ? Or should I look toward the guildmages Korozda Guildmage , Vizkopa Guildmage , Vitu-Ghazi Guildmage ? I was thinking for one drops Experiment One and Slitherhead .

So I'm realizing that a good way to buff creatures to make them worth jarad sac'in would be to have a scavenge mechanic in the deck as well. But for obvious reasons scavenge and jarads first ability dont work well together. What I'm thinking about now is replacing Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord for Varolz, the Scar-Striped and Devour Flesh . varolz gives me the needed scavenge without the scavenge creatures and if I can combo Devour Flesh and Sanguine Bond it could deal some serious damage. If I swap jarads spot for Desecration Demon it could work the same. What do you guys think? I know that most people use Devour Flesh as hexproof removal moreso than to destroy your own creatures but I think with Sanguine Bond on the field it could be interesting.

the alternative would be to keep jarad..sac creatures with him then use Devour Flesh on him

Lotleth Troll works well with varolz, or any sac outlet that is very beneficial to your decks needs. If you keep your jarad though I would not use the scavenge really and add experiment one and maybe immortal servitude if you keep casting costs relatively low but very effective creatures so when push comes to show you can use the back up Immortal Servitude
