Help me make a standard deck

Standard forum

I don't play standard. So far from what I know, it's a slower format. That's about it. I know nothing about meta and how games are played out.

I want to learn to play standard. I think it could be fun for me to participate in an ever evolving format. After paying attention to BFZ, Oath of the Gatewatch, SOI, and now Eldritch Moon, I see Black Green or Abzan delerium being a really, really strong deck. Help me make this deck, because I don't know anywhere to start.

NOTE I have only played Modern up until now. I'm an Selesnya Elves one trick pony and know absolutely nothing, so please bear with me.

I have one Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet that I would really love to put to some use.

There's a neat little Orzhov control deck that you can use as a template or basis for building a deck around... Kalitas plays a key part in that deck. My own brew runs red as well for Nahiris, Chandras, Goblin Dark-Dwellers and some really early burn, the list has not been uploaded yet :/

icehit6,
I love the deck search function here on T/O (it's the magnifying glass icon in the upper right). Here are recent Golgari decks with Kalitas ... there are a couple Delirium ones and there may be more.

I'm not saying, "Here, netdeck these" because they may not be the right decks for you. But you can reach out to the brewers (Konnon and ddanzeiser, for example) and see what works and what doesn't.

Good luck (and good skill) on the build!

Here's an Abzan Delerium deck I'm working on for next rotation. Abzan Delerium Control (post rotation)

I don't have Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet in here since most of the removal exiles creatures instead of killing them. I'm sure you could opt for a golgari list running Grasp of Darkness and stuff like that. Maybe it's worth it in the sideboard though, since Liliana, the Last Hope sometimes kills stuff.
