A god with hexproof?

mrloudcar says... #2

What if you add unblockable?

Mass exile like Final Judgment or Merciless Eviction

swkelly89 says... #4

mass -1/-1 counters, Black Sun's Zenith or Mutilate . or somehow force the controler to sacrifice. ie. Barter in Blood Killing Wave Devour Flesh

gufymike says... #5

Also, things that give -1/-1 counters that don't target and Black Sun's Zenith (assuming not standard) and Drown in Sorrow (in standard), A god with hexproof though, just kill off it's devotion and it's just hexproof and not a problem.

Anyways, this is a question more for deck help and/ or for the format forum you're most interested in. Q&A is for rules related questions. This I think is teetering on the edge. It's not asking how hexproof and indestructible work, but what are the answers to them.

I have a guy who uses a god with indestructible, and adds a hexproof, and an unblockable enchantments.

So can I remove an enchantment if the creature has hexproof?

February 6, 2014 10:34 a.m.

raithe000 says... #11

Unless the enchantment itself has hexproof from something like Privileged Position , then you can destroy an enchantment on a hexproof creature just fine.

February 6, 2014 10:38 a.m.

The only hexproof enchantments in Standard are creature auras. They cannot enchant a permanent that is not a creature, so all you need to do is make sure the god never goes active and he won't be able to enchant it.

Once the enchantment sticks, all you have to do is remove his devotion so that the god is no longer a creature and the aura will fall right off because it is no longer enchanting a legal target.

if its the only creature Celestial Flare in white and Devour Flesh in black can make them sacrifice it...if its not, Selesnya Charm in g/w can exile any god as soon as it becomes a creature and right before they enchant it as its an instant. Fade into Antiquity in green can also exile a god, regardless if the god is a creature or not and its also an instant so you can cast it right before they enchant it as well.

Ezrius says... #16

Sadly, Fade is a sorcery. So is Revoke Existence . You could Quicken either, though, if you're carrying Quicken .

Does worldfire exile lands too?

Yes, Lands are permanents.

blackmarker90 says... #20

Artisan's Sorrow is the green instant enchantment removal, but it's destroy not exile

February 6, 2014 12:11 p.m.

AndyReveler says... #21

Damn, i forgot Fade into Antiquity is a sorcery, I thought since it was more expensive than Revoke Existence it must've been an instant, shame on me for assuming...and why are there so many non-standard answers when he clearly meant standard?

Archeden says... #22

Glaring Spotlight would be a good SB against someone running hexproofs. After playing it, you could easily pop a Detention Sphere , Revoke Existence or even Death's Approach , depending on what you're playing.

if a 2/2 creature "has protection from red", can it block a red 2/2? what happens?Same question for "has protection from creatures".

February 7, 2014 10:27 a.m.

AndyReveler says... #24

Nothing happens to the creature with protection, im assuming you mean Master of Waves . Master can block red creatures all day without any harm to himself, the red mages way around that is Skullcrack as damage can't be prevented no matter what.

Protection from creatures kinda works the same, it can block/be blocked by creatures without any harm to itself, you can still kill it any other way like kill spells and burn. Skullcrack would also work in this situation i believe.

February 7, 2014 10:53 a.m.

Ruric says... #25

acousticcanceryou mean if you cast Skullcrack the creature with protecttion will die by the damage dealt by the creature since the protection cant prevent the damage while damage cant be prevented till EOT?

February 7, 2014 12:51 p.m.

Archeden says... #26

That's exactly what he's saying, Ruric. Through using Skullcrack one can render protection useless. Well, in the damage regard.

February 7, 2014 1:02 p.m.

Ruric says... #27

didnt know that, good to know! now Skullcrack has more uses than i thought

February 7, 2014 1:28 p.m.

If Hexproof is being granted by an Aura, killing the creatures providing Devotion would not only turn off the God, but cause any Auras to fall off as well, opening up some of the Enchantment removal options listed above.

You can also kill a lone Monstrous Fleecemane Lion with Devour Flesh or another Edict.

February 7, 2014 1:34 p.m.

AndyReveler says... #29

The More You Know Ruric!

You have to make sure Master of Waves blocks first of course, then respond with Skullcrack , then bam! Dead master and tokens. Of course, once you do that, they'll became wary of your daring red mage tactics and might stick to just blocking with the tokens.

February 7, 2014 1:46 p.m.

Ruric says... #30

acousticcancerso is not that i can block Master of Waves if attacks and before declaring blockers i Skullcrack and then block?

February 7, 2014 5:07 p.m.

AndyReveler says... #31

Unfortunately no, Master of Waves protection means you can't block it with red creatures Ruric, you kinda have to trick it into blocking one of your creatures, then use the Skullcrack

Celestial Flare , Devour Flesh , Away , overload Cyclonic Rift , AEtherize , Pithing Needle if we're talking about Fleecemane Lion (to stop monstrosity from happening). If you use one of the bounces, make sure to have a counter ready to stop it. Fleecemane Lion seems like the thing that will having both hex proof and indestructible the most, and make sure that you do something (i.e. Doom Blade ) in response to it's monstrosity, not them monstrosity in response to your Doom Blade .

Devour Flesh is the short answer.

The long answer is as follows: The best way to remove indestructible creatures and hexproof creatures is either by putting a punch of -1/-1s on everything, (I'm looking at you Mutilate and Black Sun's Zenith ) or by making them sacrifice their creatures.

Seeing as how BSZ and Mutilate aren't in standard you either need enchantment removal for the enchantment making the creature hexproof, or you just need to make them sacrifice their hexproof guy. Enter Devour Flesh . Letting them gain life isn't fun, but I'd rather let them have life and no board state, then to be staring down a fat beater that I can't kill or target.

We do of course have the rare, but always exciting, exile sweeper Merciless Eviction in standard. So you can just name creature and exile all of his guys. Who cares about indestructible? Not Merciless. Who cares about hexproof? Not Merciless. Who cares about casting something that costs 6 mana? You probably... Oh well, IT'S WORTH IT IF YOU WANNA WIN!

If it's a god you're worried about, then take them off their devotion so they stop being creatures, when they aren't devoted they aren't creatures. That will make cards that say, "Enchant creature" fall off of it. So goodbye hexproof. It sounds a bit like Alpha Authority is your problem. Alpha Authority can be easily destroyed with something versatile like Golgari Charm , Abrupt Decay or Wear / Tear . Heck you can even bounce it back to their hands with Cyclonic Rift . Either way, remove the hexproof enabler or the devotion, then just Fade into Antiquity or Revoke Existence that god's fat rear outta here.
