How viable is izzet in standard?

Started working on an izzet deck (still waiting on some cards in the mail) and I think it will be pretty fun to play. I was just wondering if izzet is really able to compete in standard at the moment.
I have a secondary Izzet deck that I only play casually nowadays..it's proven to be consistently mediocre, with times where I completely get shut down by control or outsped by aggro; but, I have swung back for lethal when I was down to 2 life. I still lost the match due to mana inconsistencies though.
To me, Izzet decks are exactly what they are advertised: they are often based on the "experimental" ways of winning, and you sometimes don't succeed.
Imagine using Quicken , drawing and playing Armed on a fully pumped AEtherling ...

You attempted to move this to "Standard", but it is currently sitting in "Lore".

I never rule out a color scheme in and of itself from being viable (for example, I love playing Simic and have made several Top 8's with those decks, like My Prophet, Your Loss (Top 4 FNM), even though many consider it to be the weakest guild). At the end of the day, it all comes down to the deck itself and how well you play it. One advantage of playing a lesser-used color scheme is that opponents will have a hard time anticipating your moves.
With Izzet, you are generally going to be using synergies that revolve around lots of instants and sorceries (i.e. Young Pyromancer , Spellheart Chimera , etc.). Izzet isn't a "pile of good cards" like Selesnya or other guilds, but the synergies available mean that the sum of the parts can be greater than what less synergetic guilds can put out. As with any synergy-dependent build, you have to find ways to protect your key pieces while still adding to the overall strategy (i.e. I feel like Mizzium Skin is underused for those kinds of decks, and counterspells are always nice), and a good dose of card advantage is always a plus with those strategies; luckily, Izzet has plenty of good options for that (Jace, Architect of Thought , Thoughtflare or Steam Augury ). Put up a link to the deck and I'll check it out!

Boil em up is what its at right now, excited for my cards to show up in the mail so I can give it a shot. Im thinking of incorporating hidden strings in there as well. My favorite deck is also a simic, which people told me was not so great but I have fun with it.

I'm planning on buying the deck The Oncoming Storm to play for standard, and after doing quite a bit of playtesting i've found it's fairly viable. Especially on a budget, it gives me a fun way to play my favorite guild and still win.
