I don't understand Standard anymore!

Standard forum

So I have no idea what decks are going to look like once Theros and M15 rotate out and I know a lot of the people in my area are already playing decks geared toward rotation.

So my question is, should I continue playing with Theros cards and if so what are the new hot decks consisting almost entirely of Khans block and MTG:Origins cards?

Throughout Khans we saw Jeskai Tokens, burn with creatures, Siege Rhino varients such as Rock or Reanimate, Sultai Reanimator/Delve, Dragon Control, Mono sligh, mono burn.

What's good now? What does this winter look like?

Jeskai, Esper, RDW and Abzan are the best decks that will survive rotation.

@ DrFunk27: Thanks I think I will just cave in and pick up Abzan for now.

Just play EDH. Standard isn't worth trying to keep up with anymore.

Nobody can tell you what decks are going to look like after rotation with any real accuracy. Four sets are leaving (which will help figure out what decks WON'T be there), but there's going to be 250 new cards coming in, which will change our views on what archetypes are going to be powerful.

That said, yeah, I can't see Abzan not being a mainstream deck, even if BFZ adds nothing to it. Same for RDW/Goblins.

Mono Black is looking like it's got a lot of power behind it as well.

That what lazy people say when they've given up after being beat too many times

BW warriors loses almost nothing and is still excellent. The existence of Languish does make the deck suffer (as it is cheaper than Crux of Fate) but who knows if people will even run it? It kills most of their own creatures so only a few decks will run it in the side anyway.

When new sets come in and it looks like the set will shake up the format and people are going to try new things, it is always a stable decision to play control. UB control would be my choice to pick if you know how to play it

lol no new sets mean dumb things will happen which means aggro is the most stable. It's linear and has a clear game plan that won't just die to itself

The safest deck to play in a new set/format is always aggro

Yeah, Goody is right. Control has to know what decks it's trying to fight to be effective. That's why you'd often notice aggro dominate at the beginning of each Standard, with control crawling back up as the metagame stabilizes.

Green/Red looks really strong.

I'd keep up playing with other stuff and worry about rotation when that time comes, if you play a deck you like and get to know it well you'll be able to adjust easily by looking for analogs (cards that are similar) to replace. Will be more fun and less stressful that way. Don't buy anything that's gonna rotate unless it's real cheap though and you'll be fine
