What if you take Silence and exile it with Elite Arcanist is it just me, or is this really strong? Almost as good as the Possibility Storm Curse of Exhaustion combo. Do you guys think that this would work well?

no, because they can kill him in response with an instant

Indestructibility or any counter spells?

You're still relying on a fragile and expensive creature for this interaction. It doesn't do enough to have an impact on Standard.

And the more cards you add to try to protect Elite Arcanist , the more convoluted your deck becomes. At the end of the day, you're still gambling on a subpar creature.

you'd need to have something else out there as well... in a RWU deck you could run that with a Young Pyromancer and Master of Waves , consistently pumping out 2/2's, or even put in some Clone 's to copy Master of Waves and make 3/3's

I was actually able to assemble this combo in m14 draft, and while it did well there, I don't think it's powerful enough for standard.

Fun, but not really practical. I have a deck built around this specific combo if you'd like to look at it Silence in the Library

I was talking with some people at my LGS and we came up with the combo of Rescue from the Underworld exiled to Elite Arcanist and then take all their creatures with Act of Treason and Portent of Betrayal and sac all their creatures. A fun interaction, but not Standard worthy. And it's much along the same lines as Silence -Elite Arcanist , but more fragile.

And if you were wondering, here are some ways to kill/turn off Elite Arcanist in the current Standard: Doom Blade , Hero's Downfall , Polukranos, World Eater , Lightning Strike , Spark jolt , Voyage's End , Griptide , Shipwreck Singer , Shock , Ephara's Warden , Magma Jet , Ultimate Price , etc.

As has been previously stated, the combo just isn't quick or sturdy enough to be effective.

Have you thought about trying EDH? Being a generally more casual format, I've seen Elite Arcanist do some crazy things. Counterspell on him is incredibly frustrating haha.

@JakeSlytherclaw7: I don't think any iteration of the Silence - Isochron Scepter interaction can be classified as "fun".

Repetitive combos involving creatures that don't have Hexproof, Indestructibility, and can be countered are not very strong. Furthermore, by themselves, the cards independent of each other don't have much of an effect on the game. Most competitive decks will have a way around this. Heavy Aggro doesn't care if you land the Arcanist on turn 4 and "imprint" Silence on it on turn 5. By that stage in the game they have creatures that will beat you down. In fact, if you're opponent has a Voice of Resurgence , he/she will thank you for what you are doing with your cute combo. Control will Thoughtseize one of the cards out of your hand and either counter or kill your arcanist. Also, as was mentioned in a previous post, they can counter your copied silence.
