I was thinking on how to abuse Quicken most effectively in standard. This means that the deck becomes dangerous with Quicken but is still viable without it.
Help me think of ideas of how to abuse this card in a major way!
Obviously, you want lots of sorceries. Cards that come to mind as I look down a list (candidates) are:
1.Epic Experiment
this seems like it could be crazy to blow a fuck-ton of sorceries on your opponents turn.
2.Divination
or Glimpse the Future
nice synergy, love them with Epic Experiment
too.
3. Supreme Verdict
first on many people's mind, I'm sure. We're looking american
4. Hands of Binding
locks down a creature for 2 turns instead of one. Not sure the effect is worth it, but maybe if we have evasive creatures to take advantage of the cipher. Inaction Injunction
fits here too.
5. Whispering Madness
Unexpected Results
can these odd cards work with Epic Experiment
in some glorious manner on your opponents turn?
6. Curse of the Swine
not with Epic Experiment
, but this card is much better with Quicken
then without it.
One idea would be to make a mill deck with Epic Experiment using mill based sorceries (Breaking / Entering , Whispering Madness , Paranoid Delusions (nah), Pilfered Plans , Psychic Intrusion , Tome Scour , and Traumatize <--interesting since you decide the order that they resolve). You want to blow the Epic Experiment into lots of mill cards and draw all at once. Hmm... with a lot of Anger of the Gods , as an added wrath effect could R/B/U work?
Anyway, let's hear from the community. It doesn't have to be sorcery based mill, that's just one idea off the top of my head.
Good point meecht. Where is Mana Flare when you need it? LOL
But seriously, It might work if most of your additional sorceries (and instants) were in that 2-3 CMC range. Such as Anger of the Gods , Divination , Glimpse the Future , Lightning Strike , Magma Jet ... Ok, I'm going to throw it together, I smell bacon.

I think you'd want something to help improve the impact of Epic Experiment . Maybe Young Pyromancer , Guttersnipe , or even Nivmagus Elemental ?

working on a deck idea now.
How does Epic Experiment interact with Possibility Storm ?

Ok, I ended dumping Quicken (lol) and came up with this: Epic Toast, going a different way on improving the impact of Epic Experiment . meecht what do you think?
meecht says... #2
Epic Experiment works better if you use spells that benefit from multiple copies being on the stack. For example, more than 1 copy of Supreme Verdict on the stack is redundant.
Also remember that you need the mana cost to be X or less. This means you would spend 3UUR to Quicken + Epic Experiment for 3 in hopes of there being a relevant 3CMC or less spell in the top 3 cards of your library.
The spell is very mana intensive, but you might be able to do some kind of Izzet devotion build to help power a Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx to generate the necessary mana. The problem would be balancing the number of permanents needed for decent devotion with the number of spells that make Epic Experiment worth using.
