Impact Tremorsfoil

anyone think impact tremors could make a deck in standard? use lots of dash, top-end Butcher of the Horde. I would go R/B but full mardu is probably possible as well.

mostly asking because I love playing with it in prerelease and want it to be doable in standard on a but want it to be doable in standard on a very strict budget for fun. Hordeling Outburst, Zurgo Bellstriker, butcher, tremors, Dragon Fodder, Goblin Heelcutter possibly, the haste megamorph is a card I enjoyed playing.

also I know it's a nonbo with dash but Shaman of the Great Hunt might be a thing I test with as another top-end, even without his ability he's a hasty 4-power creature to use.

If Purphoros, God of the Forge hasn't seen a ton of play, I doubt Impact Tremors will. Also Dragon Tempest does what Impact Tremors does, but better if only for Dragons.

Impact Tremors has the benefit of coming down turn two, so before you're curving into Hordeling Outburst. in a deck that wants purphoros you either play too much before purphoros or you wait until you have him to play your game, so you don't start playing your creatures until turn 5, which is too late. this lets you go turn 2 tremors, turn 3 hordeling outburst, turn 4 rabblemaster/dragon fodder/butcher of the horde. it does less damage per creature but I think two turns earlier is pretty relevant.

though you're probably right that it won't end up working out, I think I'll eventually try somehthing with it.

I personally am intrigued by Impact Tremors. It sits at a much better spot on the curve than Purphoros, God of the Forge. My issues with it are: It is a poor topdeck and really only a good play on turn 2. Turn 2 is a very important turn to be interacting, establishing a threat, or accelerating in Standard. Taking a turn off to cast this could put you in a serious tempo hole that a Lava Axe over the course of the game won't make up for. It also requires other cards to do anything which makes it weak to variance and hand disruption.

I feel like Rasta_Viking29 made a better argument than I did. The tempo loss of taking Turn 2 off in Standard is HUGE. You either need to be building up a defense or deploying a threat early and often right now in Standard. If you look at the top performing decks you'll see cards like Anticipate, Sylvan Caryatid/Courser of Kruphix (with ramp), Thoughtseize, Silumgar's Scorn, Ultimate Price, Soulfire Grand Master and other cards that do something or answer something. Turn 3 is even more crucial, but the point remains.

hmm. That's all fair enough. I would like it more if we had Faithless Looting effects to discard it later on. anything discard/draw worth mention in standard? Tormenting Voice is just bad and I'd rather a better option than that, any idea? (this gives card advantage to the deck and a way to fix it as a bad topdeck late game)

also thoughts on whether it should fit into a token aggro build or a more midrange build, where the damage benefit will be more incremental over the game instead of attempting to just be explosive with Hordeling Outburst and Dragon Fodder and Goblin Rabblemaster.

or going R/W tokens with Raise the Alarm, Hordeling Outburst, Dragon Fodder, Secure the Wastes, Goblin Rabblemaster. gives access to Chained to the Rocks as removal. Mardu Hordechief as an option.

black instead adds Brutal Hordechief and Bloodsoaked Champion as options, removal in Hero's Downfall

I feel like of what you listen, Soulfire Grand Master, caryatid, and courser are all that establish a board presence. aggro/token decks exist without this so if they waste silumgar's scorn then good, ultimate price doesn't hit it, thoughtseize doesn't give them any kind of presence, and anticipate also doesn't do anything but set them up, same as tremors does.

I was forgetting the Abzan decks which run Fleecemane Lion and Rakshasa Deathdealer as well in that list. Also we have some more powerful 2-drops in Dragon Whisperer in Standard now, and removal spells like Lightning Strike, Bile Blight, etc. Furthermore there is more enchantment removal in Standard that is likely to be maindecked due to the prevalence of Outpost Siege, Courser of Kruphix, and Jeskai Ascendancy. Dromoka's Command, Erase (in the SB), and Reclamation Sage all hose enchantments.

This is besides the fact I feel like Impact Tremors is just not a good card for Constructed. If it was closer to Warstorm Surge, or maybe for 2 damage I might buy in. But as is I just don't see it :\

I think I'm gonna try it and if it can't work I'll just run some aggro or token build. I'm only trying for some fnms and there's decent amounts of jank in my meta, like someone running a morph deck because he forces simic into every format.

If you want to run it be my guest! I would love to see a crazy Impact Tremors deck to show up at some point. Even if it's relegated to FNM status, I'm sure you can kill people very quickly with it.

I ran impact tremors last night at FNM and did wonders for R/W tokens deck. I was able to cast it on turn two. And just burned my opponent out with dragon fodder, raise the alarm, and hordeling out burst. As at late game finisher I had a bunch of tokens with outpost siege dragons mode with all the tokens swinging. It was pretty hilarious giving my opponent something to think about declaring blocks lol

I run a pair of Impact Tremors in the SB of my Jeskai Tokens. It's great against a lot of decks but not really MD worthy. It's been winning me a lot of games where the ETB damage is a big deal. Like against mono red, the fact that all my chump blocking tokens also deals damage to my opponent has been great.

I have a mono red deck that plays Impact Tremors it turns Dragon Fodder and Hordeling Outburst into burn spells. Also if you activate the dragons mode of Outpost Siege your tokens/creatures deal damage coming in and leaving play. Makes tokens great against control.
